Prisma Illya – Unlimited Blade Works (G/R) [09/12/2024]

Throughout his lifetime, in both the present and the future, and even in alternative timelines, Emiya Shirou trains himself to be the ultimate hero of justice. Binding his magical circuits together, he projects weapons drawn from imagination, both real and fantasy alike. With an iron will and desire to preserve peace, he dashes straight into a battle, a one-man army ready to take on the world on his shoulders.

体は剣で出来ている。

With his hair turning white and his body changing colour due to his abuse and overloading of his magical circuits, Shirou prepares to create another mystical projection against the evils of the world. To assist him, his counterpart from another world, the lovely and bold Kuro, joins him in battle, carrying his same pride and sense of duty.

When Shirou enters the field, you may pay his costs to terminate the opponent in front of him by sending them to the waiting room. When he attacks with his climax, and when your opponent dares to cancel his righteous fury, Shirou may pay costs and resonate with any Kuro [クロエ] character in your hand and deal damage equal to Kuro’s soul to your opponent, a two-pronged attack if you’d will.

血潮は鉄で、心は硝子。

Just as Shirou seeks to preserve justice and protect humanity, so does Kuro as she seeks to do the same but for her friends. Also, as the deck wants cards with Kuro in its name to resonate for Shirou, Kuro’s combo above is perfect as a means to fetch our pieces to hand while also being a target for Shirou to resonate with.

幾たびの戦場を越えて不敗。

As for targets for Shirou to resonate with, it’s ideal to have a mix of characters with a single soul and characters with two soul. The first Kuro on the left is a level three reverser that heals on play, but more importantly, when she reverses a character, you may bounce her back to hand, perfect for acting as a resonate target that can also deal damage. The trio in the middle is a force draw on-play that has Kuro in its name. It also bounces a character on your opponent’s field, making it easier for Shirou to activate his ability from over-swinging while also removing any potential threats that could otherwise be encored to stage. Lastly, Kuro in her pajamas is a level three beater, but more importantly, she’s a two soul attacker which works well in conjunction with Shirou. If you do have to play her onto field, she does give a cheap stock refund if she enters your stage when your field is four or more.

たった一度の敗走もなく、

While not necessarily known for having large bouts of power, Kuro is an arms expert, always ready to reverse the situation as needed. Rather than trying to contest your opponent, Kuro is more than happy to trade in field, removing your opponents from the stage (and herself).

たった一度の勝利もなし。

Little boy Gil serves a secondary purpose outside of being an early game beater. He’s a bonder to his event to the right, a powerful card that gives a strange duality effect to a character. Gil’s event makes one character unable to front attack; however, the same is applied to the opposing character that faces the character whose buff this is applied to until the end of your opponent’s next turn. Now the best use of this card is on Shirou mainly due to his ability to kill the opposing character in front of him with his on-play ability. This is crucial since Shirou will generally be looking to direct rather than front most of the time; thus, negating the whole negative component of Gil’s effect entirely.

たった一度の勝利もなし。

To defend our weapons, the lovely Beatrice is a wonderful Leafa profile counter that can help push us closer to cancels while also fixing our hand. Kuro is a vanilla counter, but she can be used as a resonate target for Shiro.

遺子はまた独り、剣の丘で細氷を砕く。

Rounding out towards the end of the pack, 2/1 Gil is an alternative finisher. In exchange for nuking your entire board at the start of his attack, you may deal additional damage equal to the number of characters you sent to waiting room. He also gains an astronomical amount of power afterwards as long as he is alone on stage. Shirou in a yukata is a Clean Cut profile that cannot stand unless you have another character on stage during your stand phase. Kuro in a relaxing pose is a climax discard salvager. Kuro in tattered clothing is a mill runner that fills your waiting room while also potentially saving herself. Shinji in an apron is a climax swapper that is also a level zero clock reverser. 1/1 Kuro is a front assist that also has a discard bottom deck ability.
