Slime – Ogre vs. Wolf (B/Y) [11/03/2022]

Be it on official matters in far-off countries or a laid-back stroll around the Federation of Tempest, there isn’t a moment where Rimuru is not accompanied by his loyal subordinates and allies. While everyone is dedicated to Rimuru, his more passionately devoted followers compete with their loyalty.

Following in his master’s shadow, Ranga is always ready to pounce on any would-be assailants. By Rimuru’s side, secretary Shion is also ready to cut down any opposition. The duo’s readiness can be seen with their cards above. Ranga can be early played; although his condition requires two or more of Shion’s level three card on the right in the waiting room. When played, Ranga allows you to spawn Shion from the waiting room. When played by hand or through Ranga’s effect, Shion gains immense cross-turn power and hexproof. Additionally, she has a healing ability that can be triggered by paying a cost when she attacks.

Similar to Ranga, Soei also dwells within the shadows. He and his personally trained assassins quietly strike down any potential threats. On attack, Soei’s finisher mills the top two cards of your deck and deals damage equal to the combined total of soul triggers milled. Afterwards, he allows you to return up to three cards from your opponent’s waiting room to their deck. At the start of your main phase, his alarm ability allows you to exchange a copy of himself in your clock with a blue card in your hand.

Ragna’s combo can potentially allow a character to trigger twice. Upon playing his climax, you must reval the top card of your deck, and if that card is a character, you can give a character the ability. This is a two-folded ability as this can help you gain more stock while also help with removing non-soul triggers from the deck. By carrying a climax with dual soul triggers, he further compliments Soei’s finisher in dealing more damage.

With both climaxes containing dual soul triggers, Soei’s search brainstormer above can make excellent use of these climaxes. Although his brainstormer only targets climaxes with dual soul triggers, he checks five cards, instead of the traditional four. Additionally, whenever a climax with a dual soul trigger is triggered, you may discard a character to salvage a character.

With our generative combo focused on generating stock, we need ways of generating hand and field advantage while setting up for the end game. Ranga is a good choice for our endgame set up as a Yuko profile. Rameris’ spawn effect allows us to generate field by spawning a character from waiting room. If the spawned character isn’t reversed, the spawned character is sent to memory, helping with removing characters without soul triggers from the deck and benefitting our finisher more.

Soka can reshuffle back two characters from your waiting room to your deck. If this effect is done, she can side attack without penalty. This shuffle back can help the deck in many ways. Firstly, it allows you to shuffle back soul triggers for Soei’s finisher. Secondly, she can shuffle back search targets for Ranga’s Yuko profile, and it allows you to forcefully shuffle your deck if the top card of your deck isn’t something desirable.

The two subordinates continue their rivalry as they continue to protect their lord and fellow citizens. Shion’s backup allows you to blind stock when using her backup, allowing you to mill the deck slightly while also having a soul trigger icon. Ranga’s backup is a free power pump that offers the same advantages but without milling your deck or costing a stock.

Soei’s Riko profile can be helpful in hand fixing and providing information for cards like Ranga’s combo and the finisher Soei. The Riko profile also possesses the shift ability allowing you to swap a copy in your clock with a blue card in your hand. Ranga’s level two card possesses a Time Machine effect whenever he reverses an opponent. Ranga’s level zero card is a nice way to preserve hand at the beginning of the game as he can jump back to hand if the top card of your deck is level one or higher at the start of your opponent’s draw phase. Lastly, tired-out Shion is a handy way to mill your deck and filter hand with her Rize ability.

Although Rimiru’s country has quite a diverse and differing population of monsters, things run smoothly and works together like a well-oiled machine. While people may but heads sometimes, there are never any held grudges within the Tempest Federation.
