Disgaea – Prinny Squad (Y/R/G) [03/16/2023]

Unfortunate souls who commit heinous crimes are sentenced to the worst punishment possible in the world of Disgaea. They are sent to hell, a place that sort of resembles the Gardener and 401 the aftermath of the playroom after recess at a daycare. Inhabited by several demons, monsters, and gacha players, the world where millions vie for power, all seeking to rule over their own pockets of this wasteland.

Among them are the Prinnies, penguin like creatures who are doomed denizens of former souls, punished to remain in this form until their sentences are due, sentences passed for the terrible actions they performed in their previous lives. Assuming they can pay off their debts, they are given a chance at redemption through reincarnation.

“For the bravest of the Prinnies, a hero amongst them all.”

Pringer X is the ultimate form of the Prinnies. An embodiment of both fear and destruction, none seek to challenge the Pringer X if they have even a shred of common sense. As the boss monster of this deck, Pringer gains a massive amount of power for each marker underneath them. Furthermore, they have the rare BODYGUARD ability that forces your opponent’s characters to attack them as long as Pringer X is in the middle of the stage and not reversed. Pringer X empowers himself by filling itself up with its fellow Prinnies, actively placing them underneath itself and gaining a soul each time the action is used.

The key here is to ideally melt your field under Pringer X and have your opponent forced to deal with this boss monster but to no avail, thanks to Pringer X’s large suit of metal armor and brave spirit.

As the current jailor of hell, Edna tortures and punishes the Prinnies, making sure they stay in line. She is described as demonic (fitting, considering that she is a demon) and cruel, and she takes those words as compliments. When she attacks with her climax in play, you may pay her costs to search your deck and add a character with Prinny (プリニー) trait to hand. Keep in mind that Edna herself carries neither of those traits. Another ability of hers, which perfectly encapsulates the open abuse of Prinnies in Disgaea, allows her to pay a stock to turn any Prinny character into a level reverser, turning the unfortunate sentient penguin plushies into cannon fodder.

The Prinny above is the main brunt of our attack force. We may run any amount of them in our deck. Their main job is to act as swinging fuel to generate stock and graciously give their lives up to push for damage. As they are Prinnies that carry the Prinny trait, they are also the main source of markers for Prinny X. This Prinny in particular is great as a power pump on swing, helping us decimate our opponent’s field.

Prinnies do come with their own support. Valvatorez is a global Prinny support that also doubles as a level zero reverser. Edna is an assist that gives additional power based on the assists on your field. She is also an Akatsuki profile for either Devil (悪魔) or Prinny traits when she is played on stage.

Prinnies have their own number of helpful units ready to be deployed. Edna is a freefresher that buffs your entire field when you use her effect. She also has built in hand encore. The 1/0 Prinny in the center is an expensive search on-play for a Prinny character. Lastly, Fuuka is a Prinny that gives global power boost on swing to your entire field. It is important to note that Fuuka herself is a Prinny and all her cards reflect this on her traits.

Some other great considerations are shown above. Edna is a 6000 beater as long as all your characters are either Prinny trait or named Edna [エトナ]. Fuuka is an assist in front with the power to pump one of your Clone (クローン) characters by a level and 500 power on-play. Her first ability is very useful as it works well with our 1/1 Edna support. Furthermore, she is a Prinny as well, making sure our field meets 1/0 Edna’s conditions. 3/2 Edna is a healer on-play that also gains an additional 2000 power if our field carries the same conditions as the 1/0 Edna.

These events above are great for replenishing our resources at the cost of giving our opponent back a climax. Keep in mind that these abilities will still activate if our opponent has no climaxes in their waiting room. The event on the left is a free character salvage. The event on the right charges extra stock from the top of your deck, perfect for paying Edna’s level one combo and other effects.

The last card I’d like to mention is this early play Fuuka above. She loses a level in hand if you have five or less cards in your deck. On-play, she gains a massive amount of power and soul, perfect for beating down the opponent. Additionally, as a bonus, if your opponent cancels her damage, you can pay a cost to remove the ability for your opponent to encore their field for the turn.

In terms of backup, Fuuka shows up to the stage with her signature bat. Fuuka is an oversized backup for any Prinny character. With her support, we can add further power to Pringer X to truly make it invincible.

As for our other climax, since we do not have another combo in mind, we can just go for more damage with the climax shown above. Two soul works best, especially to help us side to maintain field and to potentially push for a cancel if we wish to use Fuuka’s level three anti-encore ability.

Prinnies are essentially sacrificial flesh pods. I mean, they’re already in hell, how much worse could it get for them? The key strategy is to amass as many Prinnies as you can onto the stage and swarm your opponent. Make sure to charge up Prinny X as much as possible by stuffing Prinnies under him. Remember that Edna and others may not carry the Prinny trait. Stack them up and deal that overlord damage to your opponent for lethal!
