Hololive – 3rd Generation Boing-Boing (B/Y) [09/10/2022]

The 3rd Generation of Hololive closely resembles that of your average high school classroom. Carrying fantasy themes in their characters, 3rd Generation is assembled by the following members: Usada Pekora (rabbit), Shiranui Flare (dragon), Shirogane Noel (knight), Houshou Marine (captain), and Uruha Russia (necromancer). As beings from the fantasy world, the gang works tirelessly to bring imaginative fun to the Hololive universe, and in Marine’s case, pillaging as much booty as she can get her hands on.

Russia is the star of the deck with her amazing necromancy powers. Already on her own, she is a large capable beater with build it encore. Her climax ability provides a modal choice between two effects (keep in mind that the effects only proc if she is on stage before the climax is played). You may either shuffle back a number of cards from your opponent’s waiting room to their deck, or you can spawn a character from your waiting room to field (effectively raising them from the dead). One of these prime targets is the Marine shown above who acts as a healer from Russia’s effect or when played from hand. She also has a nifty ability to pump the soul and power of your field.

Flare the fair dragon is the early advantage engine of choice. Her climax ability adds the top card of your deck to your hand if it is a Hololive (ホロライブ) character. Additionally, if you choose to do so, you can pay her cost and double trigger twice, particularly great to get rid of triggered climaxes or trigger them intentionally for value. Speaking of which, her choice trigger will be greatly beneficial to grab Russia for her early play condition or build up stock for the ability as well.

Speaking of which, to summon the all-powerful Russia early, both Flare and Noel above have to combine their powers together to spawn Russia from your hand. Together, they add phenomenal power to both your end-game Russia and early advantage Flare.

Some more assistants to the team are shown above. Noel is a hand-fix that draws, hopefully snagging you the Russia climax for repeatable usage. She can also rearrange your top two triggers, making it more likely for you to trigger what you wish. Russia ignores colour requirements and acts as another hand fix option with power pumping capabilities. Marine is a Riki that digs through your top four cards for a character when she’s sent to the waiting room.

In terms of backups, there are two options for the team. Both are effectively “free” 2000 powered backups with Pekora replacing your stock when she’s used while you fulfill her condition.

Interestingly enough, there are two filter options in Noel and Flare which perform similar actions. Noel is a searcher while Flare salvages, so choose between the two for the hand fixing options or potentially run them both. 1/0 Marine is an interesting option that can resurrect itself if you do reveal a level 2 or higher card. Considering the number of twos or above included in the deck, she could make for a pretty decent fighter that maintains board in the early game. Make sure to get Russia out on the board as soon as possible and loop her combo as much as you can. Spawn in Marine and begin to pummel your opponent with damage. Show your opponent the true power of the fantasy squad!
