King of Fighters – Purple Flame and Green Flame (Y/R) [02/24/2022]

Do you ever look at your own or your opponents’ card effects and feel like they’re too overwhelming and carry far too much text? Are you the type of player that complains about frame lag and input lag? Do you ever feel like complaining at the screen and throwing your controller away because you’re unwilling to admit that you suck, only to pick it back up again five minutes later?

Yes. We all know. You should probably stop playing Mai if you want a real chance at winning. Kyo is overrated. Real chads pick Terry. This deck was requested by Andrew Trinidad. Stay free, Andrew, you’re an easy clap.

This deck, to put it simply, does not have a level three climax combo finisher. What we have instead is our boys above. Kyo may not look very menacing, but Kyo is quite a useful finisher on his own that can fulfil his own requirements. Keep in mind that Kyo can grab any event with his first ability. Furthermore, his event burn skill is climax-less and only requires stock and the playing of an event, meaning that you can genuinely kill your opponent during the main phase when you use an event or when you use an event counter. Rugal performs a similar burn damage skill; however, his condition to do so makes your opponent think twice before simply beating him over.

Now, for the real star of the deck, the namesake of this deck is shown above. This event is one of the most interesting and fun events ever printed that may make your opponent think twice about swinging in. Essentially, this counter works as a double bounce, one for you and one for your opponent. Depending on the circumstances, such an effect may be a crucial bane to your opponent while letting you bounce one of your characters to hand to safety. You can even use it during your turn to recycle on-play effects while disturbing your opponent’s field.

Now as for a means to maintain hand, Mai above is a perfect way to both apply pressure with her climax while helping you retain hand advantage. Her secondary ability may be seldom used, but it is a welcome addition if the luxury arises, helping you net further hand with or without her combo.

Using the team based system of KoF (King of Fighters), this deck has multiple different means to bring out more powerful allies onto the stage. Our first pairing is Chris which represents a dual faced threat. If she manages to survive to your next turn, she can change into the Shermie to the right, giving you an even larger threat on stage. In the early level 0 game, she presents an unwelcome trade for the opponent, making them choose between sacrificing a card to her reverse ability or to simply let her slide and deal with Shermie on the following turn.

Another pairing up for consideration is that of Joe Higashi and Terry Bogart above. Joe has a spam-able brainstorm ability, but more importantly, he can change into Terry whom provides a free refresh for the deck if his condition is met. Terry is just a decent card overall, helping to mitigate refresh damage for a deck that is low on healing effects as is. He’s also got a nice ripped body ready to tear down his opponents.

The final few mentions for the deck are shown above. KUSANAGI is a great hand filter that helps you exchange any card into a Kyo from your waiting room. Shermie in the center is a nice support that grants a level reverser ability to help deal with any annoying threats. Magaki on the right is another way to gain hand when he’s sent to waiting room.

Get good. And remember, if you lost, it’s not your fault, your controller just “disconnected” randomly.
