To Love-Ru – The Better “Darkness” Deck (Y) [01/28/2021]

Master, or simply Nemesis, acts as a foil to Yami as she peers at her from the sideline. Using Mea as her trusty spy, she monitors her rival, hoping to find and expose Yami’s weaknesses and drive her personal goals forward.

Just as the introduction suggests, the deck mainly combines the efforts of both Nemesis and Mea. The deck’s endgame combo is shown above. The Nemesis to the left carries quite an expensive ability; however, she is able to stand both herself and the Mea in the center which she brings from the waiting room, allowing for a two pronged attack with the climax to the right in play. Mea herself acts as the required target for Nemesis’ ability, but additionally, she acts as a means to push for extra damage with her resonating ability while charging stock whenever her damage is cancelled (potentially paying for another Nemesis’ effect).

As such, the combo itself demands a large buildup of stock, which will be the deck’s main goal to attain for the late game.

Unlike most traditional deck builds, the deck itself does not have access to any immediate brainstorm. This is quite a bit of a concern as the deck then both lacks a potential way to gain hand and mill itself. As an alternative, the deck does come with several resonate effects that mainly work with the level three TL/W42-002SP-SP. The center card in particular is quite essential as it becomes a pseudo brainstorm that almost always guarantees hand (only Transformation (変身) or Dango (だんご) characters). However, the timing for the resonate effect starts at the beginning of your climax phase, making your potential hand gain and mill set-up for the following turn instead.

The deck also lacks a true “advantage” combo. As such, cards like the Mea to the left and Mea to the right are used to generate additional hand at the cost of stock.

Without an advantage combo early to generate hand or stock, the deck appears to have a tough time ahead for itself. However, this problem can be mitigated with the arrival of our divine dark hero Yami’s combo above. With her combo, she effectively swaps herself into any level one or lower Transformation (変身) or Household (家事) character from your deck.

Since the deck is not running any green cards, the restriction would be any Transformation character instead. The three cards listed above are some suggested options for Darkness to swap into. Each option has their own pros and cons. Most remarkably, the clock encore Yami to the left has a cost of two stock when played from hand, which is mitigated by being spawned from the deck, but she comes with a remarkable base two soul. The Mea in the center is another spicier option with the ability to grow itself upon reversing its opponent and resonating with the level three Nemesis.

Either way, choose accordingly and pick the best target to potentially last several turns to grow both your stock and hand.

Some final options to note before reaching the end of our Nemesis’ mischievous devious plans are shown above. The hand encore Yami to the left is always useful and a very nice addition to avoid the expensive clock encore effect of TL/W42-024C. Mea in the center is an additional level three that can potentially grab any piece needed for your end-game. The drop search Yami to the right is ever important due to the deck’s reliance on the resonate mechanic, fetching any character in the deck or the main resonator card early (TL/W42-002SP-SP).

As for backups, depending on your preference and your level one lineup, they may be great in securing and maintaining board advantage. The Nemesis and Mea counter are in direct competition for slots as they are both level one counters. The difference between them is, assuming you are at full board, the Nemesis counter will provide more power. It does come with an additional stock cost, but it has an additional soul trigger and the extra 500 power from a full board may in turn be important in saving your characters in battle.

I’ve provided some additional options above. Do not worry too much about garnering stock. Sometimes it may be better to change to a contingency plan if needed. Given the amount of soul damage available in the deck, you may often catch your opponent by surprise as you pump enormous amounts of damage into their clock. Do your best and maybe get off two Nemesis combos in a single turn. Foil the harem plan and expose the true Golden Darkness!
