Makeine – Nice Body (B/Y) [06/28/2025]

Anna Yamada from Makeine is a special kind of girl. To describe her in a kind sense, she’s a living goddess (according to herself). She does possess a superpower with a black hole of a stomach, letting her endlessly consume, as the great devourer herself. Following her failure to snag her childhood friend as a lover, she now lives to plague and cause misfortune for the main character of the series, Nukumizu.

The beautiful (self-proclaimed) model acts as the finisher and main focus of the deck. She’s a modular finisher that has a secondary delayed ability. Long story short, for a heavy cost, Anna allows you to cheat the game rules and extend your life by another bar, letting you die at level five instead of level four. Her other ability gives you a free ping two. Obviously, you’d like to get this buff out as soon as possible. This can be accomplished with the help of her 2/1 in the track suit. Anna in the track suit lets you spawn a copy of 3/2 Anna from your hand by sending itself to memory when you are level two.

I think Anna is on to something here. In death, there is no such thing as a calorie-gain or calorie-deficit. Maybe by entering the corporeal realm, we can abandon this inhumane chunk of rock and move to a better world, a world free from the constraints of financial burden and insufferable physical limitations. That or she’s trying to be a ghost dork. Anyways, Anna is an interesting modular Maguro combo that checks based upon the number of characters you have in your backrow +3. Meaning, with a full backrow, Anna can check up to five cards, adding any character or event.

Anna’s costs for her early play are quite prohibitive in terms of stock. Anna herself costs two stock to play from the 2/1’s on-play costs and the cost to send her to memory. The problems with Anna are that she’s not exactly protected from anything, and it would be devastating to have her anti-changed or memory kicked (if she is memory kicked, she’ll remove herself as her ability text states that she must be put there by her own combo ability). Still, in the most dire of matches, you’d likely have to swing Anna close to second or last, and having to give your opponent a free board for fear of anti-change makes it all the worse.

In this case, in the early game, stock charger Anna can more than readily generate you extra stock with a climax in play to set up for 3/2 Anna. 0/0 Anna smiling smugly is important for our early game, helping to stock up our backrow entirely as early turn one with a bit of luck.

Two more great cards to consider are that of the two above. 2/0 Anna is an interesting card that has a sort of a loan and payback effect. Her first ability lets you stock the top card of your deck on play and then marker a card underneath herself. In that sense, she effectively gives you a free stock on play. On the downside, when the marker underneath her is removed, usually when she’s sent to waiting room after being reversed and at the start of encore step, you’ll have to send her to your clock. This is where something like the 1/1 assist to the right lets you sort of cheat Anna’s loan. The second ability of the level assist lets you pay its costs and bounce one of your other character other than itself back to hand. Effectively, you can transform your hand into stock by bouncing 2/0 Anna back to hand and recycling it’s on-play trigger. Even though 2/0 Anna technically leaves the field, meaning the marker goes away, since Anna is no longer on stage, you cannot send her to clock.

Before we reach the end of our post, the insatiable stomach has one more trick up her sleeve. This Anna above is a secondary finisher that deals damage based on the number of characters you possess in your memory. If you have three or less, she deals a single point of damage, and if you have four or more, she deals two points of damage.

Just before the end, there is one more card we need to mention. This 1/0 Anna event is a reprint of Puppet Show from Key, an event that generates you additional stock and mills your deck for free. Essentially, this event helps us generate even more resource for 3/2 Anna while ensuring that we can also mill out our deck.

In defence of our hungry glutton, these two backups will be sure to keep her safe so she can continue consuming the rest of the universe. 1/0 glasses Anna is an anti-change bottom deck backup. 2/1 Anna looking shocked is a memory kick backup.

Some other Anna cards that can brighten your day show up here. 3/2 Anna smiling offers a modular pick between stock shuffling your opponent or drawing three and discarding a card. She can also double trigger on attack for a stock cost. Anna smiling while eating lunch is the deck’s brainstorm with a nice draw and discard ability once per turn when your other characters are reversed. Anna showing off her parfait is a generic Riko profile to help fix your hand and filter for playables. 0/0 waving Anna is a free 4000 power profile that markers the top card of your deck if it is either a character or event. Anna offering her hand to you is a climax swapper and level zero bottom deck reverser in one. Lastly, 1/0 Anna with half of a heart gesture (was forced to be here due to a friend’s insistence) is a free 1/0 6000 beater with clock encore.

If there’s one thing Anna is good at, it’s eating and eating and eating. Despite her lazy and laid back attitude, Anna is a genuine friend through and through. As for the “nice body” part, I don’t know much about that.
