Quints – Futaro’s Inverted Harem (G/Y/R/B)

In Quints, initially, all five girls outside of two were relatively cold to Futaro. But slowly overtime, they came to warm up to him. Now, instead of Futaro having a harem of his own, he is collectively shared by all the girls.

From first glance, it appears very odd to see Futaro here as the centrepiece of the full combo. However, Futaro is essentially the initiator for your finishing turn as he spawns all the copies of the specified Quints underneath him onto the stage. Futaro is the card you want in your opening hand, and his job every turn is to marker another one of each Quint mentioned in his card text from your waiting room up until your last turn. Finally, when you do arrive at the end, you may pay his costs and then spawn all the Quints onto the field from underneath him while sending himself to memory. Futaro is hexproof in order to prevent any flickering effects to undo his markering; however, he is not immune to full board flickers or destruction. He also has a non-global series trait, Tutor (家庭教師), something that can’t be easily searched for.

Should you manage to get a hold of Futaro and manage a full five turns while markering each of the individual Quints listed under his card effects, you’ll be able to spawn the five lovely girls above. Each of them carry their own special effect that works simultaneously with the same green climax listed with Futaro above. You don’t need to worry about colour outside of green to play the climax since all the girls are spawned by Futaro onto the stage, getting rid of the played from hand colour clause. You can feel free to chain and re-order their effects as you wish.

The combo I chose to pair with the deck is the yellow combo featuring all five girls together. It feels more thematic to include them all, and I feel it really speaks to the deck’s identity. Outside of it’s combo, the five girls together is a spammable search brainstorm. The combo itself allows you to perform a mill three salvage ability, letting you nab a Quint (五つ子) from the waiting room whose level is equal to the number of Quint characters milled or lower. As a friendly reminder, Futaro does not count as a Quint.

This card is a great way to set-up your deck with its spammable mill ability and its combo mill ability. This will hopefully ensure that you have the required Quints mentioned on Futaro’s card in your waiting room, letting you immediately marker the Quint you need while also preparing more targets for the later turns.

In terms of getting Futaro to hand and then to field to set-up, we have to play generic cards that don’t check for trait. Ichika’s Riki profile is great since it easily searches out Futaro while potentially milling one of the Quints mentioned on his card. Nino can add any card through her first ability while also helping you mill your deck with an optional draw and discard effect as her secondary ability. While Yotsuba’s first ability lets you drop search for a Quint, her second drop salvage ability can fetch any character including Futaro.

The best cards that fit very well in our deck are those that both mill targets for Futaro while also providing us advantage in the form of hand or stock. 0/0 Ichika is a prime example of this which can easily loop back to hand, assuming you do mill the level two or higher card, fairly likely considering the number of targets we need to run for Futaro. Miku’s climax swapper has the added bonus of milling three cards on play for free. Lastly, both thematic and perfect for the deck, all five Quints together in bride outfits can be played without colour requirement while letting you discard a card to spawn any cost zero character from your deck (yes, including Futaro) and acting as a level one reverser. This card is excellent since you can both rid your hand of the level threes you may draw while setting yourself up for Futaro. You can even play this card without any worries since no colour requirement is needed.

To protect our girls, Ichika, the first Quint, puts herself up on the line with an anti-change ability. Nino’s charm carries a memory-kick effect upon reverse.

Other Quints that rise up to the occasion include Yotsuba listening in on a conversation being a stock Adachi profile. 1/0 Quints all together is another card that can be played without colour requirement that acts as a Helmet profile that also provides a nifty cross-turn power effect to one of your cards. Nino eating ice cream gives a character the ability to rearrange their top two triggers on attack when a climax is played while also being a check three, add one brainstorm, hopefully filling your waiting room with some good stuff. Miku in a yukata is a clean cut profile that can hopefully save our early combo and send it to the back for the following turn. Itsuki is another Helmet profile to filter our hand while also having a level swap ability to fix our colours if need be. Lastly, Ichika is a sneaky way to spawn out Futaro potentially with a bit of luck during our early turns.

Remember that Quints is an Exodia-style deck. As such, almost all your power comes from your late game combo. Unlike many other Exodia-style combos, Futaro’s Inverted Harem comes with the upside of not having you hold all the pieces in hand but have them reserved underneath him. However, you must play a sort of minigame where you mill out each of the individual pieces for him to marker. If you are using this deck profile with the suggested early advantage combo, remember that you still need yellow to play the climaxes and such. Do your best and bring out the irreplaceable bonds that tie the sisters together.
