Bofuri – “Flying Fortress” Maple (Y/G) [01/14/2023]

When you are at death’s door, look to the skies and you may see an enormous turtle drifting above. Make way as your local air-headed guardian angel plunges to the stage and defends against all attacks. Using her ridiculous defense stat, she protects her team with her divine aura while leading them to victory.

Maple transforms into her angelic form and is ready to keep you safe with her [Loving Sacrifice]. For her climax combo, if there are four or more other characters on the stage when she attacks, she gains a cross-turn 2500 power boost and the ability to give a continuous minus two soul to the character facing her. To help make good use of this effect, make sure to use Maple’s early play effect to start stalling as soon as possible.

After an exciting adventure, guild master Maple heads back to her Maple Tree for a quick break. Maple’s early advantage combo allows you to salvage a character from your waiting room with the level of the salvaged character equal to the number of Maple Tree climaxes in your waiting room. Maple also possesses a resonate ability with her level 3 combo. For every copy of her level 3 combo that is revealed, Maple will gain a 1500 power boost until the end of your opponent’s turn.

To help generate a sizable waiting room for her level 1 combo, and hopefully sending one or two Maple Tree(s) into the waiting room, the two Maples above are good choices for milling through your deck. The Maple on the left has decent survivability as she gets a 4000 power boost on your opponent’s turn. By paying one stock and sending herself to the waiting room, she allows you to look up to four cards and add a character to hand. The Maple on the right is a Chiyuri profile that adds a level 1 or higher card to hand.

Two other Maples suggested for the deck are shown above. When her level 3 on the left is played from your hand, she allows you to play another card from hand for free while giving them a 2000 power boost for the turn. When she attacks, a cost can be paid to give a character the ability to burn for a single point of damage if their damage is canceled. When Maple’s level 0 on the right is played from your hand, you can ditch a level 3 Loving Sacrifice Maple to refresh your deck for free. Along with her free refresh, if you are level 3, you can pay a stock to exchange her for another character with Maple [メイプル] in its name from your waiting room.

Frederica’s spells drag climaxes to hand. Frederica’s card on the left acts as a Rize profile but for climaxes which can pair nicely with Maple’s back row on the right. When a climax is played, the Maple on the right allows you to pay a stock and look at up to four cards from your deck to add a level 1 or higher card from amongst them (Amagi profile).

Maple’s event back up on the left allows you to choose two characters on your stage and give them a minus one soul ability for the turn (both instances can be assigned to the same character). Once this event is played, it is sent to memory. Along with the aforementioned Chiyuri, Maple’s wooly armor on the right is another option to help fetch her event backup. When she gets reversed, you can ditch a card and pay a stock to send her to memory to add a card to hand from the top two cards of your deck. Be sure to utilize Maple’s wooly attributes to help soften your opponent’s attacks while providing compression through memory.

Along with her wooly backup, Maple has some other backups that can provide some further utility based on the situation. Her backup on the left lets you discard two cards to send an opponent’s early plays to their memory. Her backup on the right allows you to pay two stock to burn one. Be sure to use these backups not only for their effects but to also improve Maple’s defensive power.

Maple is a powerful player, but she is at her best when she has her fellow guild members backing her up. Chrom can be an excellent way of looping Maple’s level 1 combo as he allows you to discard a card to bounce one of your other characters back to hand when he swings. Iz is a Riki profile that searches for a level 1 or lower character which can help you set up your level 1 board or fetch utility cards. Mai and Yui’s brainstormer checks the top 3 cards and adds one of them to hand if you hit their brainstorm condition. This is another means of adding a climax or Maple’s wooly backup.

Though she may look like an angelic guardian, Maple is a chaotic force that will pull out some bizarre combination of skills to win a fight. With the combined power of Maple and her guildmates, they can win any fight without a scratch.
