Bofuri – “Spawning the Raid Boss” (R/Y) [02/03/2023]

Once upon a time, there was a shielder who wanted to achieve defence above all else. In time, they found the power that they sought, and with their overwhelming power, they formed a cult “guild”. On every moonless night, the guild convenes to pay tribute to their dark lord, the savage beast of the abyss, Maple.

Bare witness as the demonic beast crawls its way from the depths of the void; within its presence, all who do not submit will perish. Upon taking the stage, Maple gets a dark boon of burst power and the ability to salvage a climax. To annihilate the opposition, Maple requires a heavy sacrifice of stock, hand, her climax, and the offering of a reversed opponent. Once conditions are met, Maple will begin her deadly onslaught, pinging your opponent one damage, then two, and then finishing with a deadly burn three.

The twin high priests join their dark lord’s assault. As their lord’s most devout followers, they aim to assist their lord by causing further destruction. Mai and Yui’s secondary finishers are Musashi profiles that carry the effect of stocking a character from waiting room if you have four or more characters on stage when they are played from hand (the cards above are the same but with a different design).

In preparation for the arrival of their demonic deity, the priests set off to generate stock and amass a sizable following. The twins’ combo allows you to stock a character from waiting room and add the top card of your deck to your hand if it’s a character. While their combo shares the same climax and effect, their condition differs. Mai’s combo relies on your opponent to cancel her damage, and Yui’s will occur if your opponent levels up. With their combo utilizing a two soul climax, both of these conditions are firmly well within their grasp.

Blessed by their beloved dark god, the twins shall make their trip to the beach a fruitful venture as they celebrate in their god’s name. May allows you to ditch two characters to look at the top two cards of your deck and add one of them to hand while sending the other to stock. Yui allows you to check the top two cards of your deck and decide which one you want to trigger when she attacks (the other card is sent to waiting room), but more importantly, she sends the top card of your stock to hand if her damage is cancelled. Looking out for her followers, Maple’s card is a Pina profile that’s a beater that can also conveniently send itself to backstage at the start of your opponent’s attack phase.

Donning her human façade, Maple on the left is a unique type of clean-cut profile whose effect occurs if she reveals a level one or higher card during her attack (note that she does not need to reverse). Chrom’s level three killer aims to be a sticky threat as his undead armour revives him when he’s reversed if the top card of your deck is level two or higher. Maple’s card on the right is a Chiyuri profile which can help assemble combos while she eats through your deck.

Using her backups, Maple ensures that anyone who dares harm her followers will be painted in blood. Her backup on the left allows you to pay extra stock to counter attack with a single point of damage. Her backup on the right allows you to send opposing early played cards to memory.

The twins team up once more as they aim to punish heretics throughout the match. Yui’s 1/0 can gain a continuous power and soul boost if she has a marker. She gains the marker by placing May’s vanilla card under herself from your waiting room during the turn she’s played from hand to stage. Iz is an on-play search Riki profile that targets level one or lower characters; additionally, she empowers herself when one of your other characters reverses their opponent. When he attacks, Chrom’s 0/0 allows you to discard a card to bounce a character back to hand.

With the battle’s conclusion, the guild has appeased Maple’s bloodlust. With a bone-chilling screech, the demon crawls back into the void from whence it came. Let this be a lesson that, while in the presence of Maple, you have no power or will. Anyone who dares slander Maple’s title will be offered as tribute without question, and in the name of Maple, it will considered a merciful punishment.
