Angel Beats! – The Silver Haired Queen of Death (R/Y) [12/14/2022]

Nothing strikes more fear into the hearts of the students of the Afterlife than that of the descending angel, Kanade Tachibana. Through the power of her angelic wings, Kanade soars above as the high school’s student council president, ready to deliver any needed punishment to those below her.

The lovely student council president bears her wings as she grants a character an extra soul and an on-cancel, deal two damage ability with her climax combo. Furthermore, when she’s played on stage from hand or deck, she can pay a single stock to search out an additional copy of herself, making a single copy capable of spawning up to three other copies of herself onto the stage.

Showing off her more powerful side, Kanade dives into battle with her signature “hand sonics” on each hand, shredding her opponents into pieces. Kanade’s combo above gains power on attack equal to the other supporting members on your stage. Furthermore, she’ll then gain both the abilities to pay a stock to double trigger and bounce back to hand when she’s fronted until the end of your opponent’s next turn.

Given the climax trigger choices of both choice and gate, Kanade can easily net the advantages off these triggers and then easily pay them out with another Kanade’s swing ideally.

To help consolidate our game plan, both Kanades above are very good options to keep in mind. The Kanade on the left is a nice climax swapper to help loop the level one advantage combo. Furthermore, she can shuffle back two characters from your waiting room to grant herself a soul for the turn when she’s played on stage from hand. This second ability is integral as you can shuffle up the finisher into your deck to spawn out. The Kanade to the right is a drop searcher that sends itself to memory to grab any 生徒会 (Student Council) from your deck, such as the finisher to begin the spawning chain.

Kanade and Yuri are great for cheaply salvaging a card when played on stage from hand, helping to recycle any fallen combos. Otonashi in the center is another way to send 3/2 Kanade back into the deck in preparation for your end game or to push early-game damage. Otonashi on the right is a standard drop salvage to reuse resources in the waiting room.

Kanade and Shiona is a great answer to early plays, kicking them permanently to memory while sending herself there as well upon reverse. Shiina is a great card to effectively control the top of your opponent’s deck when she becomes reverse while also sending herself to memory. Shiina is great as a means to potentially lock your opponent at level zero early on in the game, since you may choose any card for her top stacking effect (even a climax). Yuri is the big pay-off for having memory as she becomes a free hand fix on reverse as long as you possess two or more cards in memory.

Before we enter the backup stage of this deck, we have Yui on the left as our early play heal. Yuri on the right is a potential last-ditch effort, sacrificing as many other characters as you’d like on your side of the stage to hopefully deal precise damage to your opponent to close out the game.

In terms of backups, Shiina is a great option as a free-fresher to keep your deck loaded with cancels and ideally your finishers as well to spawn the following turn. Kanade is great as an anti-change sack counter to get out of sticky situations.

There are many options to pair with Kanade. Kanade’s sleeping promotional card is great for hand retention in the early game and to beat down your opponent’s card. Early play Musashi Kanade works as an additional finisher that can also benefit from your main finishing Kanade. Yuri and Saya are great for cheaply pushing for advantage without costing hand.

Push down your opponent by maintaining advantage in the early game, and then when your opponent is reaching their death, send them swiftly to the afterlife with Kanade’s swift cut.
