Idolm@ster – Do-Die? (Y/B) [05/08/2022]

Do-Dai, otherwise known to most who’ve played and played against it as Do-Die, is one of the greatest gifts or evils granted to us players by the Weiss Schwarz heavens above. As the alternative name implies, the goals of this deck comes in two steps: Do and Die.

The infamous Do-Dai is composed of exactly two cards. The combo as shown to the left summons up to three copies of herself when the climax is played from either the waiting room or deck and costs are paid. The goal here is simple: beat your opponent down with Mami’s endless assault of ice cream fueled damage.

Since Do-Dai requires specifically two items, the climax and the level 0 Mami, the deck should be filled with options to ensure that both these conditions are always on hand. The Sunlight (glowsticks) to the left ensures that a climax can be grabbed. Drop searches such as the Hibiki to the right or a salvager version can be used to recoup the specified Mami.

Unfortunately, there aren’t too many stock gaining options for the deck. The best option is the above Azusa with her secondary option to compress your deck as she flies away to memory. Her cancel stock ability works very well with the 2soul climax of Do-Dai. Furthermore, her shift ability lets you easily fix your hand with your clock if need be.

Running blue is highly encouraged in the deck for its ability to recycle the Do-Dai climax to hand. Furthermore, several blue support options work great with the deck. Takane is the suggested brainstorm for her primary ability to potentially fix hand and grab pieces for the following turn should a Do-Dai be triggered. The 2/1 Iori has an active ability to swap climaxes while the 0/0 Iori empowers your level 0 characters (the bulk of your deck) while having the option to sack herself to filter your deck.

Chihaya is the choice finisher, mostly because she combos with the arc trigger to the right. She heals and has a finishing effect that deals extra damage to the opponent. However, she does come with the downside of a rather expensive hand cost for her finishing ability, but that can be mitigated with some luck and some hand preparation.

Two other finishing options would be the random Azusa with a potential restanding ability should her condition work. The other main finisher would be the Mami on the right which has the ability to procure two cancel punishing abilities, with its first making use of the Do-Dai combo Mami.

Two additional compliments to the deck are the Yayoi and Ritsuko above. Yayoi is an assist for all your Music (音楽), but more importantly, her on play effect can be used to shove characters back into your deck, ideally the Mamis if needed to summon them or add them to hand later on the following turns potentially. Ritsuko is a way to regain hand with a bit of extra selection.

In terms of backup usage, the deck doesn’t really require any defensive power. If Mamis are ran over, they are ideally summoned back on stage the following turn anyway. The counters above are great for their secondary effects. The Jupiter event to the left is a cheap heal counter that can be used offensively as well. Yukiho is great as a check to any early plays.

Do-Dai is fairly simple in its premise. You do, and they die! Due to the raw pushing power of Mami’s combo, most of the deck can be composed mostly of filtering effects to ensure that Mami’s combo can be constantly brought back. To that degree, there is a fair bit of flexibility when it comes to the different options that can be played. For instance, the Takane brainstorm is suggested for its potential filtering ability. One can, however, say, substitute this brainstorm with that of Miki for an extra push in damage (if Do-Dai isn’t enough soul as is). If enough red is ran, it can be considered to be a tertiary colour, useful for running the T-shirt event, a great event for recurring a number of pieces from your waiting room onto the field, even past Mami due to the vast number of 0s the deck runs. Push forward with Mami, and show your opponent the true terror that is Do-Dai!
