The J.C. Profile

The J.C. profile is a powerful engine that can essentially be used to recycle the on-play effects of cards on your field.

The signature name card debuts in the Monogatari Second Season set back in 2016, the J.C. card was a valued utility card capable of changing the way that advantage could be recurred. The J.C. comes from the transliteration of the card’s name as Shinobu, pictured above, is mentioned to be a female school student, otherwise known as Joshi chyuugakusei (女子中学生).

The card’s effect lets you sacrifice itself to save one of your other characters by bouncing them back to hand when they are fronted. Keep in mind that J.C.’s effect does not activate when your other characters are sided. Her type of effect does not amplify the damage dealt by the newly opened field zone since the soul declaration was already decided upon the declaration phase (no +soul from the directing).

Overall, J.C.s have not really changed much at all. They are great cards that help to repeat on-play from hand advantage or saving some sort of advantage engine (such as your early advantage combo). They do open up a slot, which is their current slot on the stage for their effect, making the player susceptible to taking more damage. However, this effect is usually worth it, despite this potential downside. Being able to retain hand at the cost of a single stock and field loss helps to secure hand for the following turn, a great trade that can benefit the player in the long term.
