Guilty Crown – Grandmaster Marker King, Shu (Y/B) [09/02/2021]

In the anime, Guilty Crown, Shu Ouma uses his power to draw upon the souls of those around him. In turn, he can form and pull out a physical incarnation of said soul in the metaphorical image of its host. Shu with his full determination wields his power to its fullest to take down those that oppose him.

The main combo in the deck revolves around the two cards above with the center card’s combo climax on the right. The left card is a pricey changer that turns into the center card at the beginning of the climax step. It has a nice active ability which is primarily used to boost the power and level of another card on stage other than itself for the center card’s ability.

The center card carries a very simple ability in the fact that it gains power multiplied by 1000 for every marker underneath itself. When combined with its climax combo, the player can place the top x number of cards underneath it as markers based on another one of your characters’ level on stage.

Explanation: For example, when this card swings with its climax in the corresponding climax zone, you choose the card on the left. GC/S16-010U has a level of one unless it was boosted which allows you to place the top card of your deck underneath GC/S16-012U as a marker. If you were to choose another card such as GC/S16-007R, this card would gain three markers from the top of the deck.

It is important to note that GC/S16-012U reads the level of the character chosen. It does not state the base level but merely the current level by which the card chosen is. By that logic, the best way to boost GC/S16-012U‘s effect is to power up cards on your stage by giving them extra levels. Cards like the ones above are best suited for this effect. Keep in mind that the check timing occurs during that card’s attack step meaning it is possible to boost and stack levels on a single target using cards like GC/S16-034U.

GC/S16-010U also boosts a card’s level when it taps itself before changing into GC/S16-012U. With the two cards above, it is possible to boost a target’s level to some unrealistic number, which in turn adds more markers underneath GC/S16-012U.

The addition of the colour blue is highly suggested in the deck for a few reasons. The cards above for example are great ways to help you grab the combo pieces as needed and filter through your deck. More importantly, these cards are needed to ensure you have the appropriate colour to play the card below.

GC/S16-096U 綾瀬機シュタイナー

This card above is very important for the deck as it is the best means of recurring the combo climax for GC/S16-012U. Ideally you will be able to get the combo off the first time and then on your following turn, you can search for the climax and combo again, adding even more markers to your GC/S16-012U.

Given that the deck is in the colour of yellow anyway, running GC/S16-003R along with its bond target, GC/S16-123PR are great ways to maintain hand and field advantage. Furthermore, GC/S16-003R allows you to filter away other unnecessary yellow cards from your hand and recur herself, helping set up for GC/S16-012U. Technically, GC/S16-003R also bonds to GC/S16-005R, but the deck doesn’t run that many shift cards and the effects on that card are rather lackluster. You’re better off running a brainstorm in the back or GC/S16-013C to help assist GC/S16-012U. Since you’re in the colour anyway, GC/S16-124PR is a great finisher to add which carries a Musashi effect.

Given GC/S16-012U‘s potential power, it is unlikely that anything will really oppose it in a duel of power especially if you can get the combo off at least twice. However, if the case does show up where there is a potential power contention, having a backup may be handy to maintain GC/S16-012U on the field.

As for the other climax to run, that choice is completely up to you. Maybe you add a two soul climax to try and speed up the clock. Perhaps, you’d put in book triggers to try and gain hand advantage. Either way, the core of the deck is shown above.

I’ve added some additional options above in the slideshow. It is important to note that despite GC/S16-012U‘s potential overwhelming power through its markers, it is not protected against any opposing effects that do reverse it in some way or form. If it ever leaves the field anyhow, the markers are forfeited and you’ll be forced to try and build up the combo again. Anyways, best of luck and try to make GC/S16-012U large enough to challenge the likes of those such as RZ/S46-007R.
