The Weiss Content Drought

At first glance, reader, you may be confused when I leave such a rather condescending and controversial title for this article. However, there is reason for this. I think that the title of this article is more ironic than anything else. We are living in the year of 2026 with more content creators than ever before. However, why is it that it feels like there’s no content out there? Today, we will explore that and understand why I have come to this conclusion.

YouTube Quick Results for “Weiss Schwarz” (results may vary)

If you were to look up “Weiss Schwarz” on YouTube, you’d come up with plenty of results. There looks to be some variety of content initially, but when we actually take a look and think about the content being shared based on the YouTube algorithm, what we kind of see is mainly two different types of content: collecting and tutorials. If you’re viewing my site as is, you’re probably aware that I am not interested in commenting on “collecting”, “grading”, and “investments” for this game. However, I want to speak about the other half of content. We are in 2026, and the main content that YouTube displays for this game is still mainly tutorials. Weiss Schwarz is a twenty year old game at this point, so my question is: why is the most viewed content still tutorials?

The YouTube shorts section is not much better. God bless Randall, but otherwise, the vast majority of content is the same pattern of collecting and tutorials. To put it bluntly, how I see this is the lack of genuine invention and innovation within the Weiss community in terms of content production. When the media platform routinely shows the same old tutorials (beyond collecting), it means that there isn’t enough content covering other aspects of the game.

Don’t get me wrong. Having more tutorials is always a good thing as they’re helping new players navigate the game and understand more of how to play. Speaking of which, our tutorial series for this site is here under the #tutorial tag with more advanced play here in #extra. But players are looking for something more. Players are looking to learn about more in-depth ways to play, deck-building tips, and maybe even lore-based content that explores the very IPs from which the series in this game are built upon.

Fate – Unlimited Blade Works Deck Profile

I think the most quintessential form of content to be created is that of the deck profile. I think it is a stock standard for any card game as every player must build a deck to participate in playing the game. However, deck-building can be quite difficult for the new player and even for veterans of the game as Weiss’ card pool can pose quite a bit of a challenge at times.

Purposefully, the aim of my site isn’t to post the most meta of decks; it is to explore the variety of decks that can be built within a series with some dedicated theme or goal. However, I regret to say this, but it appears, even after five years of making this content, that my site is still considered a bit of an outlier. If you were to browse YouTube right now and look for Weiss Schwarz deck profiles, you’ll be overloaded with a mass of meta deck profiles with very few unique builds here and there.

Furthermore, many decks aren’t very well labelled and give little in terms of hinting the identity of the deck. If you aren’t aware, normally, most deck profiles are tagged with the letters: G/R/B/Y to indicate the colours present in the deck and then with some climax triggers (e.g. Gate/Pants) to signal which climaxes are being used. For this site, we typically arrange the letters based on frequency of the colour with the first colour being the most prevalent and so on. This is where nomenclature really matters.

Now I don’t speak for everyone as I want to remind readers that this is just one opinion. I have very little understanding of what any of these above deck profiles could entail just based off the thumbnail and video name alone. Sure, the top left deck featuring Claudine and Maya does contain eight pants, but you could also just share something unique to inform the viewer that you are focusing on a build around both stage performers. As for Tohka’s deck on the top right, I have absolutely no clue what this could be. A random label of “the other deck” doesn’t mean anything and also implies that there is only one build? For Dandadan, the same criticism applies once again as was for the deck with Claudine and Maya. For the Lycoris Recoil deck, this one is just a deck with some of the cards presented. This explains literally nothing. Consequently, all these videos share one similar issue: they all lack identity. If we were to look at just the thumbnail and video name alone, these videos essentially have no soul. They feel empty and more like stapled cardboard effects combined together in a pile.

Make me laugh; make me cringe. I don’t care. Give me something that entertains me and a hint of what is to come within the deck profile itself. I don’t want a reading of the effects that cards have; I want to know the synergies among pieces of the deck. I want to know lore. I want to know how cards are connected and interact with each other.

It just feels like every deck profile online is just a repetitive pattern of the same thing over and over again. The creators keep telling me what’s good but fail to explain why. They give labels to cards, presuming that their viewers have this assumed recognition of what it means or how it fares in the so-called “meta.” I am not discriminating against content creators for writing about meta; I am saying that we need more diversity within the content creation space beyond just meta. Don’t just tell me that the deck is good; I want you to make content that convinces me to buy the deck profile itself/experiment with it and also potentially even view the source IP from which the deck profile is drawn from. I’ll scream it out loud: “MAKE ME WATCH LYCORIS RECOIL AFTER READING/VIEWING YOUR DECK PROFILE!”

Tanuki Gif – Marvelous Sunday

I will admit this if it appears strange to other established or aspiring content creators. I do find it hard to draw inspiration and give flavour to my articles sometimes. I am well aware and constantly chastise myself for my own articles, knowing that some weren’t written to the best of my own ability and that I could do better. There are often parts of my articles where I realized there was a pun or a joke/reference that I could have made instead. Regret and mistakes and learning from them is part of the process. Just because something is hard doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. And for me personally, I think this is my biggest crux. Many of the decks on this site are actually my own personal ones or from series that I know. I am trying to challenge myself to work on series that I have little awareness of and also doing research (I find it even hard to sit down and just watch an episode of anime nowadays).

Sometimes I feel like I’m insane when I’m doing my writing. To be honest, I feel like I’ve been told before that this is perfectly normal as a content creator. So you know what, just like Marvelous Sunday above, I’ve decided to embrace the madness and just let my creative juices flow. I don’t know what problems or struggles other content creators face, but I wish you all the best.

Sincerely, my hopes with this post is to inspire you all to be more unique and create your own individualized content, something different from all the rest, distanced from the rest of the flock. This is not to say that your content is bad; it is just that I personally wish for something different, and I’m sure I’m not the only one with this sentiment. I’m sure you all carry the talent and capacity to do so; so please, show me what you can do.
