Ever wanted to go through your deck without committing a character to the board? Want to get through your deck during your opponent’s turn? If you want to play a game where part of your gameplay can partially act during your opponent’s turn, then the “Torch” profile may just be the thing for you.

The infamous card from which the profile gets its namesake derives itself from the Goblin Slayer series. I’m not entirely sure if there are any older versions of this type of card, but from its debut since Goblin Slayer, the profile has seen itself reprinted and placed in many of these “Torch”-style decks which effectively operate the same way as they had in the original Goblin Slayer series. As for the profile itself, it is essentially an upgraded version of the Camera/Akatsuki event that operates on both your or the opponent’s turn. I try to shy away from describing cards as direct upgrades from one another because I think each and every card has a distinct role and place. However, as for this type of event, this card is pretty much a complete strict upgrade (the only downside is the old Camera events could generally be run without having a character on board, but this is such a minute requirement anyways). As for the effect, the profile lets you check up to the top four cards of your deck and add a character to hand.

Overall, for newer versions of Torch, not much has really changed. The effects are effectively the same. The Gamers’ event above doesn’t have the backup icon, but through some additional means, it can be turned into a Torch event. As such, I’ve used them as an example. The biggest boost to Torch decks compared to Goblin Slayer’s debut is the support that works around said Torch event. For some decks, the Torch doubles as a way to provide power as a counter as well, assuming you have certain cards on field. Overall, if you are into this style of deck building, do give it a shot. May luck be in your favour and you don’t mill all your climaxes.
