When face-to-face with the personification of death, your life will flash before your eyes and there are a multitude of things going through your mind. However, before you shuffle off your mortal coil, you must confront a very important question. Can a toaster toast toast? Well of course not, a toaster toasts bread.

Throughout the stories that recount his heroics, he has gone by many names: Minato, Makoto, and even Door-kun, but for this post, we’ll simply call him “the Protagonist”. The Protagonist and his signature persona, Orpheus, allow you to discard a character from hand to draw a card. While the Protagonist is standing and his climax is played, he sends himself to waiting room. In response to his descent to the waiting room, the Protagonist awakens Thanatos, summoning it from hand in the previous card’s place.

Upon arriving at his glorious toaster revelation, the Protagonist has found his answer behind the very secret of life itself and has ascended to the realm of the gods. When the Protagonist and Thanatos attack with a full field of Reload (リロード) characters, you can choose to perform one of two effects. The first effect has two parts: you choose between salvaging a character or bouncing an opposing character to hand. Then this is followed by sending the top card of the deck to stock. The second effect allows you to discard a Reload character to unleash the Door of Hades dealing two damage to your opponent.

Assisting the Protagonist, Aigis, the shadow suppression toaster, will gun down any and all shadows to protect the Protagonist to and through the night of reckoning. When Aigis attacks with her climax in play, she chooses a character and gives them the ability to search for a character when they neutralize their target. Additionally, her on-play effect gives her burst power based on the number of on-stage characters.

Aigis possesses a couple of green cards that can provide some extra oomph. Vintage or new, it matters not. Once a faithful toaster, always a faithful toaster. Aigis on the left is a brainstormer that salvages cards from clock. She can also gain immense static power if she’s the only character on stage. Chibi Aigis is an on-stage counter that can sacrifice herself to pump power to any character with “Protagonist” [主人公] in their name or with the (Mecha) [メカ] trait, the latter of which all of Aigis’ cards possess (duh, she’s a toaster). Aigis on the right allows you to draw a card through her on-play effect, and she acts as a secondary finisher with her clock kick ability.
Be aware that all of these cards do not possess the Reload trait. Make sure to keep this in mind when performing effects that target the Reload trait.

Making his way to the top of the moonlit tower, Tartarus, the Protagonist steals himself for his final fight. His connection with death gifts him the power needed to save the world. Pharos is a backrow support that pumps power to level three characters, but more importantly, he assists with the Protagonist’s ascension by providing a cheap bond to the Protagonist’s finisher. The Protagonist’s on-play effect allows you to scry the top card of the deck, helping to net a better draw from his level two card or to ensure that his finisher does not send a climax to stock.

Continuing her role as the Protaganist’s shield, Aigis’ backup is a simple counter that provides some extra firepower through a 2000 power pump.
Aigis with Palladian is a Taigei profile with an on-play heal with a built-in early-play condition that requires the deck to have five or less cards. The Protagonist brandishing his sabre is a search Riki profile that targets a level one or lower character, and his on-play effect allows you to ditch a character to draw a card. Aigis in Tartarus is a drop search that gains a soul buff while she’s in the center slot. The Protagonist in blue is a stock Adachi profile, and if his on-play effect mills a climax, he can send an opposing front row character to waiting room. Aigis under the moon is a salvage brainstormer who pumps burst power to level one or higher characters in front of her during your turn. The Protagonist with his headphones on has an on-play scry effect, and when he attacks with one or less characters on stage, he can spawn a level zero character from the top of your deck.
To attain the power needed to save the world from absolute mass destruction, the Protagonist and Aigis made the ultimate sacrifice. Forgoing her duties, Aigis made the executive decision to not toast bread but to disturb the peace by burning her bread instead.
