As another year passes by, and I get a little bit older and grow more grey hairs. More sets are added to the game. It’s been a bit of a mixed year for us here; just busy with real life and other things. Hopefully, life has been kinder to y’all. Regardless, here is this year’s 2024 Weiss Schwarz at a Glance.
This post details sets running from January 2024 – December 2024.
First and foremost, signalling the arrival of the new year, Rear Sekai dropped. For those unfamiliar, Rear Sekai is a dungeon-crawling game partially published directly by Bushiroad. Traverse the fantasy world with Narumi and friends while slaying monsters and having unforgettable experiences. In the Weiss set, there is a RESONATE mechanic being used with cards to bolster their abilities, carried by the spirit of the supposed M.C. of the game.

“ピカッとルンが光れば / Wow woh wow woh” (Source: Musixmatch) I can’t believe how many years it’s been since Delta aired on TV. Join Freyja and the rest of the Walküre squad as they spread their message of love and peace across the universe. As for the mechanics of the set, it mainly revolves around an older mechanic reborn anew, LINK. For those unfamiliar, LINK was a rare mechanic tested out in one or two prior series where climaxes would have a secondary keyword that would allow them to take the name of another climax when used in the climax zone. This is perfect as it reflects the multi-talented Walküre squad’s performances. ゴリゴリアタック!
Who would win in a cage match? Thicc things or a gorilla? Well, I’ll leave the results to your imagination. The cute girls of Kivotos have arrived. Here to help their beloved sensei win in the most challenging of card duels, the girls are here to bring their unique talents with their guns and rifles to take down any mission. Blue Archive featured the use of the EXPERIENCE mechanic which had some flavour between some of the schools.
I’m a dreamer… Cardcaptor Sakura returns for its 20th anniversary. Sakura and her friends dispel the dangerous and mystical beings that form from the magical Clow cards. Once she defeats an enemy, she can collect the card and absorb its magical powers, empowering her own magical form to become the ultimate magical girl.

Another year, another wave of Quints support. I’m kinda stumped for flavour for this one. Regardless, all five girls get even more support to add to their existing decks.

Bunny Girl returns with its latest movie featuring that of the mysterious backpack girl. With even more memory shenanigans and boosted support for all the girls, Bunny Girls is more than ready to spread its charm once more to all its fans.

One of the coolest addendum sets I’d argue to release this very year was that of the Summer Hololive set and the Hololive special ambassador set. The Summer Hololive set provided additional support to the virtual idols from the previous sets, perfecting for supplementing previous strategies. The Hololive special ambassador set was a wonderful product designed to give fans of Hololive a cheap way to try out the game with a customized deck and other neat additions. I wish they would do more of these special sets.

The strongest characters in Frieren fly into the scene. Originally teased with the trial deck in December 2023, Frieren and her party embark on a grand adventure to revisit old memories and make new ones. One very common deck enjoyed by many is that of Frieren and her pupil Fern who play events that act as “spells” to empower their deck. And of course, the GOAT of the series, Mimic is featured on the right.

Idolm@ster Shiny Colours received support after so many years. All the previous units have received further support. In addition, two new units join the fray with CoMETIK and SHHis. For the most part, each unit maintains its original unit-esque theme with Illumination Stars keeping its need to have multiple colours in the level zone whereas L’Antica still plays around with ALARM and SHIFT icons.

Persona makes a surprising show-up with its premium booster set. Featuring arts from the remastered version of Persona 3, players get to enjoy the story of S.E.E.S. and the mysterious tower of Tartarus. It’s Going Down Now! Prepare your strategy and formation and launch an all-out attack!

Get ready to enter the Mirrorverse and team up with your friends as you fight against classic villains with iconic Disney heroes. All our hands are needed on deck as we use the power of Disney cinematic magic and memorable moments to take down our card game foe.
Is it me or is it hot in here? Either way, the Grisaia girls have arrived and are ready to rumble. This Grisaia set features characters from the second series of games: Phantom Trigger. Although some references are made to the original trilogy, the set pretty much stands alone compared to the original series. Mechanically, one of the coolest things in the set itself is that of the Mihama Academy deck which revolves around running characters that have the special Mihama Academy name trait. In addition to this, this series also showed off an updated climax to the book trigger, allowing players to play the book climax beyond its traditional +1000 power and +1 soul.
It’s time to get comfy with the Yuru Camp campers. Nadeshiko and co. are getting their tents ready as they explore and enjoy the great outdoors. There will be campfires, tons of eating, sharing stores, getting closer together, and just relaxing to the sounds of nature. Yuru Camp introduces a new archetype of cards exclusive to the series with their tents that stack markers to continuously empower the girls.

After almost a decade of silence, here comes the newest arrival of the Cinderella Girls. Featuring a lot more idols this time, one major theme of the set is a focus on mono-colour-based decks. Spark your passion! Chill with the cool vibes! Show them the power of cute!

Ruruoni Kenshin takes place during the beginning of the Meiji period with the eventual decline of the samurai class. Kenshin himself is a former assassin that has sought to live a life of peace. After coming upon injustice, Kenshin emerges from the darkness and takes upon a new name while going through adventures and finding new friends. If you’re into a series with a bunch of unique personalities going through a drama, Kenshin may be for you.
Another old series with no support came with a surprising amount of new cards. Shin-chan and his group of love-able characters return to the Weiss scene once more through a booster related to their new movie. One event, in particular, has been sticking out with Shin-chan possessing a money counter that can be used selectively during the start of your opponent’s attack phase.

If you’re a fan of the Key mobile game, well there’s good news for you as Heaven Burns Red returns with its second volume of cards to support the original cast. There are some new girls as well, and as a sparkling surprise, there’s additional support for some other Key series, namely Angel Beats!.
SW/SE47-02N “ナイト・アウルの指導者”ボ=カターン・クライズ (right)
In a simultaneous release, both Marvel and STAR WARS received additional support. The new STAR WARS set received some more cards related to the main series and also further support for the spin-off series of the Mandalorian.
MAR/S113-030MR-MR “CONTROLLED DEMOLITION”X-MEN (right)
As mentioned before, Marvel released simultaneously with STAR WARS. Marvel features a newly updated cast of heroes, and for me personally, one of my favourite sets of heroes, the X-Men make their first arrival into the game. If you are a fan of the comic arts, I highly suggest picking up a premium box or two or buying some cards because these arts are genuinely cool and interesting.
Captain Tsubasa rushes onto the field. Captain Tsubasa is an old sports anime series that tells the story of the young Tsubasa Oozora. Throughout the series, Tsubasa grows as an individual while also unlocking anime-esque powers of his own. I highly recommend watching this video linked here of Sakura Miko from Hololive playing the recently released Captain Tsubasa game to just get a scope on the genuinely funny and ridiculous anime powers. In the card game itself, there seems to be a small mechanic built around dribbling the soccer ball event on the right.
UMA/W119-079SP-SP 舞台の真ん中に ダンツフレーム (right)
Dashing through the starting gate, Uma Volume 2 has arrived. Featuring even more lovable horses from the franchise, new and old strategies can combine to help your favourite horses dash past the finish line first.
GU/WE46-02GUR-GUR “ガレット・デ・ロワ” シャロ (right)
The bunny girls are back. All members of the Gochiusa team are all hands on deck and ready. This anniversary premium booster brought all kinds of support to previous decks while also granting additional support to the recent BLOOM (BLOOM) trait.
Fujimi released even more support this year to supplement their previous set. Titles such as Highschool DxD receive additional cards while new titles such as The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady make their debut.
LRC/WE47-50N 雪降る夜に 千束&たきな (right)
Previously announced, Takina and Chisato make another appearance with this premium booster. Featuring some support for the older series and some more of its own independent set cards, LycoReco is alive and bustling once more.
After years of silence, Re:Zero returns featuring characters and adventures from the second season onward. New characters have now entered Subaru’s life and make his adventures in the fantasy world far more complex and dangerous. With its new support, Re:Zero is sure to spin you into a fantasy world full of mystery and surprise.
NIK/S117-088S-SR “リアライズ”マリアン (right)
The Goddess of Victory shines from above. Nikke brings its cast of girls who are here to save the world from the Raptures, alien robot beings that are here to destroy humanity. With a variety and diversified cast of girls, the Nikkes are sure to charm both you and your opponent as you send them out to snag you that win.
So we only have the trial deck for now for Dandadan. Following the misadventures and hilarity in youth, a young boy loses his literal balls to some ancient spirit whereas another young girl ends up being almost modified by aliens. Together, this unlikely combo forms a duo where they must battle both spirit and aliens alike. As far as the trial deck goes, there seems to be the use of a combination mechanic where Okarun combines himself with Turbo Granny to become some edgy teenage horror finisher. We’ll just have to see for now where the series goes as it receives further support.
Girls Band Cry features a bunch of school dropouts who combine their musical talents together to conquer the music world. As far as the series goes, the premium booster was just recently released, and they’ll be getting full support once their trial deck drops in 2025. Strangely enough, this is also a rare series where the booster drops before the introductory deck (trial deck) comes out first.
I’m tired. My fingers hurt. I’m cranky. I want to take a nap. Well, before I peace out, these are the series that have come out this year. Overall, I’m quite surprised and delighted to see all the support for older series making a return. I am very much happy for all the series that came out, catering to a wide variety of fans. Hopefully, something catches your interest. And even if there isn’t any, we always have 2025 to look forward to. I hope you have a wonderful and great new year!
