Kemono Friends – Friends Aren’t Food? (G/Y/R) [02/16/2023]

The power of friendship is always commonly presented in children’s anime to show how important friends can be. This deck’s main synergy features Kaban’s bond with her animal friends and how she can conquer any challenge during her journey through the power of friendship.

Kaban, the main character of the anime, has a lot of tricks up her sleeves. The level 3 Kaban on the left can be early-played and allows you to search for any event card from the deck. The paper plane event in the center stops one character from attacking by forcibly resting it, which can potentially prevent your opponent from finishing the game. The hearthfire event on the right can return a character to hand from stage. Players can use this card during the main phase to replay a character for its on-play ability or use the event during combat to prevent on-reverse effects from your opponent’s characters.

Although Kaban carries many skills for survival, she does not really have any talent for the hunt. Kaban’s first encounter and friend, Serval, will be Kaban’s sword and shield forever. When the center character of your front stage attacks with the climax combo in play, the player can pay two stock and discard a card to re-stand the level 3 Serval above. However, this powerful ability requires at least two characters in memory to activate. Only the bond between Serval and Kaban can unlock such a powerful game finishing ability.

Serval and Kaban have always been traveling together and building memories since the beginning of their journey. Since the Serval’s level 3 combo needs those wonderful memories, players will start building them starting at level 0. Level 0 Kaban on the left and level 0 Serval on the right can be sent to memory when they are reversed during combat; moreover, Kaban can search for a character from the deck, which can help with setup. Also, while level 0 Kaban is in memory, both players do not take any single points of burn damage. Since there is no burn effect in the deck, it is only a downside for the opponent.

The spirit of Kemono Friends is friendship; nothing is impossible with help from friends. This event above heals any character back to your hand but only when you have three or more Friends (フレンズ ) characters in play. Paired with level 3 Kaban, you can make use of this to pull yourself out of danger as early as level two.

Lion loves to compete with other friends, and this level 3 Lion combo shows its competitive nature. Lion has the ability to stand itself if it is spawned by the climax on the right. Lion can also salvage a character from waiting room when played from hand, potentially salvaging a Kaban to hand and then using Kaban’s effect to search for events.

Our game plan requires a lot of stock so we need a way to reserve resources. The Alpaca on the left is the engine that makes the deck possible. It gives other characters burst power on the turn they are played, and it can rest itself to send a character from waiting room to stock. With the standby climax, it is even possible to grind resources starting at level 1. To limit early game resource usage, the deck plays with cards that can survive on the field for as long as possible. With a heavy number of cards that are level 2 or higher, both Arabian oryx in the middle and Aurochs on the right share a similar goal of recycling themselves back to hand or field, providing you a set of cheap card to re-use over to generate stock with no cost.

Serval is always the supportive character who brings positive energy to its crew. She is also the main character who always fights for Kaban. This card gives all friends in front of it extra power and soul which helps to push damage with our other small and low-level friends. With the standby climax, this card can be played early and begin its aggressive assault.

Kemono Friends has a lot of versatile cards with different effects to play. There are many different Kaban cards that can help search events and other friends to adapt to different situations. There are also different friends that provide great power and the ability to stay on the field. Luckybeast, although a Mecha (メカ) and not a “Friend”, has the ability to make both players shuffle all cards from waiting room back to the deck. Overall, the deck is like a toolbox that has many options to make the deck constantly interesting.
