Date A Live – Tohka’s Eight Books (B/R) [08/21/2022]

When it comes to positivity and a sparkling personality, nobody comes close to Tohka Yatogami’s attitude and energy. Being the first among Shido’s conquered angels, Tohka is a cheerful, bubbly character full of fun, always looking for adventure, food, and opportunities to win Shido’s affection. But behind Tohka’s brilliant smile lies the powerful force of Sandalphon, granting her a large broadsword to swing in battle to slice through her opponents.

Tohka above is our flashy finisher. Upon reversing the opponent with her climax in play, you may pay her costs to deal three damage to your opponent and surveil the top of their deck.

Tohka’s early advantage is the card above. At the start of your encore phase, if the opponent in front of Tohka is reversed or the lane is empty with the climax on the right in play, Tohka lets you look at up to five cards from the top of your deck and add a character to hand. Furthermore, she gains an additional 500 power boost until the end of your opponent’s next turn.

As the name of the deck implies and climaxes shown above, the deck is running eight book climaxes. This Tohka on the left provides a global power boost to the finisher Tohka during your turn. She is also a global power assist, but more importantly, she has a book trigger ability where you can pay out any triggered book to salvage a character in waiting room to hand.

The Tohka on the right is the perfect backrow partner. Her first ability is an interesting ability to spawn the level 3 Tohka’s climax from the waiting room onto the field while pumping a character’s power for the turn by 1000. Additionally, she is a salvage brainstormer.

Miku is great for the deck to both pay out triggers and try to force book hits to add additional hand. Tohka is a nice beater that greatly punishes decks in the early game that cannot interact with it or play only costless characters.

Since the deck carries mostly level 1s or higher cards, Kotori is a great card to filter for them. The center Tohka is a great filter that can also force draw cards. Lastly, the Tohka on the right is a great climax discard outlet while also going to stock if her damage is cancelled.

Counters are great options considering the power of the level 1 Tohka. Keep in mind that her combo states that she gets you hand if the lane in front is reversed or empty, letting her gain even more advantage the following turn if you can loop the combo. Both Tohka and Kotori here are 2000 counters with their own respective conditions. Origami is a sack anti-change counter. There are also counters with Kurumi (free-fresh) and Yoshino (anti-change level 1).

Take advantage of triggering books and pay out your triggers with the 1/0 Tohka support. Your Tohka combo gains advantage when either her opponent is reversed or the lane in front of her is empty. By reversing your opponent during their turn, you could potentially repeat gaining her advantage in an easier fashion by directing an empty lane with the combo after on your turn. Despite Tohka’s brainstorm being meant to grab your climax at level 3 for your combo, if you need to push for damage, do feel free to use its ability just to force a climax into play to push for further damage.
