Danmachi – Crozzo’s Magical Sword (R/B) [09/19/2022]

A proper adventurer is always equipped before they walk into the dangers of the labyrinth. As a blacksmith, Welf ensures that his team is ready for their adventurers and exploration. Wielding his mighty greatsword himself, Welf is a staple member of the Hestia Familia, providing both support for equipment and as a valued teammate.

I’d like to thank Rysher for his assistance in making this deck and shamrockmcgiggles for the idea.

Welf Crozzo works tirelessly in his workshop crafting tools and weaponry to assist his familia. As the finisher of this deck, Welf has quite a number of powerful abilities at his disposal. The catch is that Welf’s “combo” requires you to have a particular set-up of extra copies of his magical sword event in hand. Another important note is that Welf must reverse an opponent as well to get off his cheapened cost of dropping his event, meaning there will be quite a bit of preparation before his debut.

In order to achieve and prepare for Welf’s end game, Mikoto steps up to the plate as our first advantage combo. Mikoto doesn’t necessarily grant us extra hand as she acts as a pseudo-filter on attack with her combo. The benefit of her combo does all you to add an event to hand as there is no restriction on which cards can be added from her check two ability. She does net you an extra stock as an additional bonus. Her book trigger is great as well to potentially net more of Welf’s event to hand. Lastly, the level 0 Mikoto in the center is a level 0 power pump and can sack itself to spawn the level 1 Mikoto starting from level 1 and onward. You can use her as a means to recycling the combo if you have the opportunity to.

The second of our combos lie with the Hestia above. Unfortunately, Hestia is only capable of grabbing characters to hand, whereas Mikoto can net you events. However, Hestia can turbo charge your stock, helping to replenish resources while maintaining a thick body on stage. Keep in mind that she needs a “Bell” <ベル> on stage in order to gain power.

As for secondary plans to get the event into hand, the Hestia cards above are great options to filter for Crozzo’s magical sword. The Hestia on the left lets you directly draw it by checking the top three cards of your deck. Her second ability can be useful to swap events around. The second Hestia mills your deck to potentially filter the event to hand.

To take advantage of the high level cards in our decks, both Hestia and Bell here are great additional options to play. The Hestia on the left is a spawner if there is only up to one other character on stage, but additionally, if she’s reversed and you mill a level two or higher card from your deck, she flies to stock. Bell is a large beater when he swings, but he’s useful for fulfilling our level 2 Hestia’s power condition and potentially reviving himself if you reveal a level two or higher when he’s reversed.

Welf here with his armor event are part of the other combo to gain hand and filter your deck. This pairing is very beneficial for a couple reasons. Welf reduces the cost of the event to 0, meaning no stock will need to be used when playing the armor event. Furthermore, Welf can pay a stock and tap himself to reveal cards from the top of your deck and add a level 1 or higher. The armor set itself is a character salvage event and a power pump for the turn. The power pump being extremely beneficial to helping secure our level 3 Welf’s reverse. Keep in mind that the 1/0 Welf above mills cards equal to the number of armor sets in waiting room +1.

Eina here supplies the power that Welf really needs. Furthermore, her second ability gives protection to one of your characters from being responded to by a backup or event, securing Welf’s damage and combo.

The last card I’d like to mention is the Welf above. Welf is a memory flush on play, but more importantly, his secondary ability gives this pseudo clean-cut ability that triggers off revealing a soul icon when he swings. Given the large number of cards with soul triggers in your deck, this Welf isn’t a bad option at all to further capitalize on them.

In terms of backup usage, in the early game, the power level of your characters are rather low. You can potentially respawn Mikoto with her level 0 support. 1/0 Bell ideally self-revives, making backups unneeded. Hestia here can be used for more utility as an early play bottom decker. In the later game, Welf’s event burn ability can be utilized more than once as long as you have the resource. Ryu is nice as a large power backup while adding to the level 2 count in your deck. Bell is a scry backup that’s weaker than Ryu, but he’s a great emergency option to get a Bell on field for 2/1 Hestia.

Make sure that you have enough Bell cards in your deck to meet Hestia’s condition. You just need on of him on the stage. Brainstorms are optional. There are many cards in the deck that mill, and the level 1 Welf can act as a pseudo brainstorm which has the bonus of netting events into hand. If you really wish for a brainstorm with the capability to grab an event, the trial deck Lily is a decent option with her additional on play discard and draw ability too. Overpower your opponent’s level 0 game with the Mikoto level 0 support. Grab those events and burn your opponent down with Welf and his swords.
