MARVEL – Guardians of the Galaxy (Y) [07/11/2022]

The intergalactic clowns, the laughing joke of the universe, the guardians of the galaxy go by a number of names. Headed by their beloved stuck in the 60s leader, Starlord Thor, the team traverses the universe, solving the needs of those in trouble for some quick funds. A ragtag group of bums turned into heroes, they seek nothing more than the thrills of adventure and danger.

Starlord, the magnificent leader, is the main finisher for the deck. Starlord performs an interesting decompression effect with his combo, making it easier to potential deal damage to your opponent by scrying their deck. selectively ridding cards into their waiting room, and shuffling them into a potentially worse deck state.

Rocket Racoon is the early advantage engine, performing a very “Guardian” style effect by gambling damage for hand. Either way, either your opponent goes up a level, or you’re awarded with quite a bit of hand for the following turn.

The key synergy in this deck lies with the cards above and their interactions with the wind trigger from the climaxes. Groot is the salvage brainstorm of choice, making sure to boost your characters’ power whenever wind triggers are made. Drax is a potential gambler for extra stock, helping to build resources should he reverse his opponent. Mantis is a filter for your wind climaxes, paying them out and helping you gain more hand.

To round up the wind support, Gamora is a way to potentially net extra hand upon reversing. Rocket is a support that turns wind triggers into single stock Marvel (MARVEL) salvage triggers.

As the only backup fit for the deck, Thor is a great choice mostly for his first ability, more than likely either milling out targets to be placed back by Starlord or potentially removing climaxes for your following turn.

There’s a bunch of other suggestions above that could benefit the deck as well. Drax has a very interesting ability that can help you recycle on-play card effects. Thor is an interesting guardian as well, letting you net a cost 0 from your waiting room. Pairing him with Nebula will let you constantly recycle hand to go through your deck to fish for what you need. Don’t forget about Mantis‘ ability to check your opponent’s deck and potentially rid your opponent’s sticky field targets. Combine the powers of this powerful group of extraterrestrial defenders for victory!
