Slime – The Great Demon Lord (B/Y) [02/14/2022]

As the second place winner of the Valentine’s poll, The Great Demon Lord, Rimuru Tempest (formally Satoru Mikami) gets their own post. Even among the true Rimuru fans, they’re usually split into two separate factions constantly waging war against each other. The first states that the slime form, the blobbed blueish-silvery hued creature is the superior form. Meanwhile, the other faction states the true form is the human form standing on its two feet. Regardless of which faction you belong to, all must hail the mighty great Rimuru.

As a demonstration of how powerful the great Rimuru is, Rimuru manages to be a part of every colour in their respective set. This deck will capitalize on Rimuru’s flexibility to cover all bases as having no weaknesses as is expected of the almighty gelatinous being.

Showing their grand powers truly befitting of that of the mighty Demon Lord slime, Rimuru quite literally breaks apart and duplicates itself onto the field and in doing so, brings about some recovery magic. Keep in mind that there is no clause on Rimuru above stating once per turn. The goal here is to essentially leave an assault of relentless attacks on your opponent until they finally admit defeat and declare Rimuru superior to their waifu/husbando.

As for the choice for the early advantage engine, the choice is the combo pairing above. Rimuru storms the stage early and acts as a single card advantage engine. One single copy of Rimuru on stage is enough to gain up to possibly three hand alone, making this card extremely efficient. Furthermore, this card does not even need a reverse. This is perfect and befitting of our grand lord Rimuru, a visual representation of their tactical and strategical prowess.

To help our majestic lord reach their ultimate goal, the above two cards are highly recommended. Rimuru’s interest in literary affairs and willingness to dabble in science is reflected in these cards above which in turn provide stock generation effects. Additionally, both cards work great in tandem as the back row support Rimuru to the right is able to activate the condition for the 1/0 Rimuru to the left. Given enough time, the Rimuru to the right can be a long term investment in charging up stock for our gracious king’s endgame.

As for what to do with the advantage garnered by the early advantage combo, the cards above are all decent options to consider. Our genius skilled master general on the left is capable of swapping any card into any level 0 option from the waiting room. This allows for a lot of manipulative plays including summoning TSK/S70-035R for more advantage (also bypassing its first effect if unwanted). Our glorious leader in the center is a great card that can forcibly check the top four cards of the deck, potentially grabbing anything including a climax.

One last card I’d like to mention before wrapping up is the promotional card above. For a cheap stock cost, this card duplicates itself from the deck, spawning another copy of itself on stage (very thematic to a slime dividing itself). This card can be an excellent early game beater that also helps thin out the deck and preserve hand.

Generally speaking, our benevolent hero does not require backups for the great Rimuru only enters the waiting room by their own decision. However, our grand king is not against punishing trickery. Given that the deck’s limiting resource primarily is stock, a backup like the above to delay the opponent’s advantage is fine since the main cost is hand discarding.

Speaking of which, our powerful warrior has quite a number of filter options available. Not to mention, Rimuru even possesses two different “clean cut” profiles. Flexibility and transformative ability is Rimuru’s greatest asset in this deck. Having the ability to transform cards into other forms of advantage leaves a large amount of choices in the hands of their supporting player. Play tactfuly, and consider all scenarios, just as your lord Rimuru would. STORYSEEKER is an amazing song. Check it out if you haven’t already.
