Back in 2011, a card so terrifying came out which eventually warped the format and truly questioned how players would decide to play the game. This little card depicted small beady little eyes hiding between two shelves, ready to gnaw at the first sight of any creature that was spawned outside of the normal summon. By simply discarding it, anytime your opponent would attempt to create a field, you would be able to draw advantage endlessly, even perhaps drawing into the much wanted interrupting effects from hand. Permanently banned in English while relishing in full force in Japanese, the notorious insect acts as a notorious staple any format where it is free to roam in.
There is nothing the Terraformars (Space Roaches) cannot overcome. Look at that muscular body. Look at those fine biceps and triceps. Look at those empty eyes peering into your empty soul. This is peak strength, the top of the food chain. They are truly the apex predator, being able to adapt, evolve and overcome. Take down one and a hundred more will spawn.
Just as implied by the previous paragraph, the goal of the deck is to maintain pressure against your opponent by swarming them with roaches. Both events thematically use one of your roaches as fuel to power up their brethren. The event to the left is crucial as a means of spawning field without having to lose hand. The event to the right lets you sack a roach to give two of your roaches the ability resurrect when sent to the waiting room that turn. Roaches improvise, adapt and overcome.
Bushiroad knew the power of the roaches considering how damaging they are to property values. As such, they purposely weakened the roaches by denying them any level 3. But that is just a minor setback. Our big boy above is a finisher on its own with the ability to repeatedly knock repeat feeble attackers into your opponent’s clock.
Despite Bushiroad’s betrayal to our buggy boys, the roaches will continue to thrive. The combo above acts as another means to generate another roach onto the field. The beauty of the combo is that it allows you to bring forth any roach from your deck, meaning TF/S32-037U usually.
What is the other climax? Well it’s the boys, duh. Coming in armies of several hundreds, creeping from your kitchen sink, your walls, your grandfather’s dirty closet, the fellow roach comrades swarm in to beatdown on your enemy. Rush down your opponent and show them true meaning of alpha species.
I don’t have much else to say since space roaches are simply the biggest brain divine deck structure to be ever made. I’ve attached some roach kin above which are unfortunately not neo-standard with roaches. Swarm your opponent, and show them the true meaning of fear.
