SAO – The Legend of the Seed (B/Y) [01/05/2021]

Once long ago, before civilization came to exist and man learned that “insurance” + “company” = scam, there was an Adam and an Eve. It is said that a man combines his love for the woman and creates a special product by which is given to the woman. The nurtured existence grows within the bond of two and eventually develops into… Your free biology trial lesson ends here.

I’d like to personally thank Soup for the grand suggestion for this article. Remember that Cream of Mushroom is king.

What is the Seed exactly? The Seed is whatever you wish it to be. The Seed is a recurring tool able to transform into whatever you need it for. Practically, you may use it as a means to protect your kin or as a potential discard for another effect. Keep in mind that the Seed states specifically that it only supports Avatar (アバター) or Net (ネット) characters.

Considering one’s primal instincts and looking in-depth to the true meaning of the Seed, the arrangement of the deck must point to the understanding of both creation and birth. This representation of the small humble seed desires nothing more but to be placed into the hearth of the land and to be nurtured into maturity.

Since a seed is a product of two beings, procreated by nature and SAO Chapter 16.5, we can consider Kirito as the pistil and Asuna as the stamen. Then, by logical recourse, it can be assumed that the final product itself is Yui.

The final stage is simple. The three cards above represent the bond of the Seed in its full form. Just like Kirito’s predecessor, Kira Yamato, we intend to use the full force of the Seed with this three man team. The Yui on the left will be used to flush the opponent out of climaxes ideally. Then the Asuna will be used to pump the full squad with power and soul. Lastly, daddy Kirito will finish the job with his powerful game ending double swing. Alternatively, if you don’t want to use the greatest card in Weiss Schwarz and its double swing ability, you may use the “easier” version instead (SAO/S20-077R).

To guarantee the success of its progeny, the former generation rears and shields their young. These two above are more than likely going to be your main back-row for most of the game. Their importance lies predominately in their ability to mill your deck and cycle the Seed into your waiting room. Additionally, considering the profile shown below, they are essential in trying to grab specific cards into hand which are only able to be gained from hard drawing them.

This is the penultimate form of the Seed in its full fruition. Bearing traits from both the stamen and pistil, the Seed emerges from its earthy case and flies out into the air. The Yui on the left works ideally exchange the Seed into her final form to the right. Her final form adds a persistent layer of protection for all your characters, potentially growing more with each copy in memory.

The Seed is a powerful asset. The Seed’s stamen and pistil shown above help to recur hand advantage by looping the Seed into other cards. Given that the Seed will always return to your hand regardless, they are “free” ways to continue to plus either on stage or hand.

Nothing better represents a mother’s love for her Seed than the combo above. Thematically, the combo is a perfect scene showcasing a mother looking back at her fully grown child (the Seed). Practically, this combo acts as the main means of helping you maintain hand advantage with the granted bonus of grabbing anything off the top three cards of your deck (ideally netting you another Seed). It is a reverse combo, but the reciprocating love of one’s Seed will dutifully aid in powering up the stamen.

The rough days of the maturation process are tough. Prime targets for the Seed to foster and flourish are shown above. These cards can be seen as long term investments that hopefully retain themselves on the field for several turns on end, helping you preserve hand as you reach your final turn.

The last card I’d like to mention before wrapping up is shown above. This card is essential to the deck for its ability to grab any Kirito, Asuna or Yui, the three parts of the Seed. Additionally, it mills the deck, allowing you to potentially set-up your waiting room early for Seed looping shenanigans and more.

Worship the Seed. Grow the Seed. Foster it. Never let it go. The Seed is life. Believe in the Seed, and the Seed will return the favor. There are no need for backups because the only backup you will ever need is the Seed. Alternatively, as another combo, you may consider SAO/S51-078R with or without its combo as a way to generate extra stock at the cost of hand. The Seed is all you need!
