Kaguya-sama – Kaguya and Hayasaka (R/B) [11/16/2021]

Kaguya and Hayasaka, master and maid, grew up together while being raised essentially as sisters. Wherever Kaguya goes, Hayasaka follows while trying her best to push her master forward. She will go as far as she can to try and push Kaguya and her crush, Miyuki, as close as possible.

The finisher for the deck uses the Kaguya card above to the left (KGL/S79-050RR). She is a healer with the ability to potentially accomplish multiple damage instances of one during her attack with her climax (card to the right) in play. Keep in mind that her third ability can be accomplished regardless of whether or not the climax is present.

The center card, KGL/S79-077R, is Kaguya’s resonance target. This card itself is a drop search with the convenient ability to bounce itself back to hand when you play climax onto the stage and provide one of your characters with 2000 power for the turn.

The main way to gain advantage early is through the combo above. When the Kaguya above combos with its climax and you have another Shuchiin (秀知院) character, you may look at the top card of your deck and place it underneath this card as a marker (mandatory if you look). Then when this card reverses its opponent (either turn), you may discard the marker underneath it, search for a Shuchiin character, and then add it to hand.

Keep in mind that early on, you can use her standby climax to bring her out early to prepare for when you hit level 1.

Some other key cards that are great for the deck are shown above. KGL/S79-054R is a level assist with the ability to resonate with KGL/S79-077R and paying its effect costs to reveal the top three cards of your deck and add any one Shuchiin character to hand. KGL/S79-086U is a hand filter on play that checks the top three and lets you add any one Shuchiin character to hand. During your climax phase, she also resonates with KGL/S79-077R which gives it 2000 power for the turn.

Being a deck running standby, the ability to run large beat-stick in the hopes of cheating them out with the climax is a very decent option. The two above are great suggestions considering they are huge bodies that are tough to deal with on field.

Another set of cards to note are shown above. The Hayasaka to the left is a bonder to the event on the right. She lets you discard any Shuchiin character and search for the event from your deck to add to hand. This is a very good option to consider with standby as you can discard heavy cost targets to be cheated out potentially. The event itself provides one of your characters 500 power for the turn and the following two abilities:

  • You may pay a stock and trigger twice when this card attacks.
  • At the end of the turn, if the card with this ability is still present on field (after encore phase), you may choose a Shuchiin character from your waiting room and place it into stock.

Both effects are very nice considering that it’s already a good power boost to help KGL/S79-053SR with its reversing condition. The first ability helps with trying to trigger a standby. The second effect is a potential free plus on stock assuming your character lives.

Some final cards to consider are shown above. The Hayasaka to the left, KGL/S79-075SP-SP, is an early play heal if you have four or more Shuchiin characters on stage. Her secondary effect makes her 11000 power base with the ability to prevent your opponent’s backup usage during her battle.

KGL/S79-T17SP-SP is a secondary finisher that provides 1500 power to all your characters in the front row as long as she is in the front row (includes herself). When she attacks, you may her cost to mill your opponent’s bottom three cards of their deck and deal damage to them equal to the number of climaxes milled.

The Kaguya to the right is a beater with a very powerful effect. Whenever she reverses any level 2 or higher character, you may place the top card of your deck into your stock. She can also resonate with KGL/S79-077R to give herself an additional 6000 power for the turn making her a competent level 3 killer as well.

Given the power of your standby targets, backups aren’t bad options to run if you’d like. The Kaguya backup on the left is a free 2000 power backup as long as you possess a Shuchiin character on stage. The Kaguya backup on the right is free-refresh counter that costs an additional two stock if you wish to use its refreshing ability. Ideally, you can use this backup to force a refresh in the hopes of getting a cancel and mitigating the refresh penalty.

I’ve provided some additional options for the deck above. Make sure to maintain at least one copy of KGL/S79-077R in hand for resonate effects. Abuse the standby trigger to draw out higher powered cards early and increase your lead on field. Try your best to field three of your finishing Kaguya and burn your opponent to level 4.
