Fate Stay/Night – Saber and Shirou (Y) [11/03/2021]

Saber and Shirou form a formidable pair all throughout the fifth Holy Grail War that takes place in Fuyuki City. Shirou’s unbreakable will and Saber’s undefeatable spirit combine in a powerful fashion that is unrivalled as they battle for the sake of the world.

The main finisher for the deck is FS/S77-003SP-SP. She is a healer with a powerful finishing effect which greatly punishes your opponents for cancelling (climax is to the right). Keep in mind that her ability can be tacked onto any character on your field, including herself.

To aid with Saber and to push for more damage, FS/S77-002RR can be used to both force the climax into play and to pump soul to one of your Master (マスター) or Servant (サーヴァント) characters.

There are two combos recommended to run early to maintain hand advantage. The first of which is shown above. Both combos are on-reverse combos which may need additional power support to accomplish their goals. FS/S77-004SR, when combined with the combo to the right, will give this card the ability to bounce both itself and another character on your field when it is front attacked. Keep in mind that this ability works whether or not the other target character is reversed.

The other suggested option to get hand advantage is the one shown above. This Saber is usually 5500 power cross-turn assuming you meet her condition. If she reverses a character with her climax in play (card to the right), you may look up to the top four cards of your deck and add a single Master or Servant character to your hand. Additionally, you can then pump one of your characters by 2000 power for the turn which helps with subsequent reverses.

Both combos have their upsides and downsides. FS/S77-004SR potentially lets you recycle any powerful on play cards while denying your opponent reverse targets. On the downside, he is rather small powered for a reverser which can be a hindrance. His climax is a choice trigger though which helps in getting hand for FS/S77-003SP-SP later in the game.

FS/S64-001RR gives you direct hand advantage as you have the opportunity to gain another more useful card in hand from the top four cards of your deck. She also mills your deck as a result of her combo. Subsequent reverses are far easier assuming you get one of her off. She also remains as a static 5500 powered beater assuming you meet her conditions. The shot trigger can make FS/S77-003SP-SP‘s effect even more devastating.

It is entirely up to you which combo you’d like to choose from.

The two cards above are highly suggested for the deck as they will likely act as your primary back-row. The Shirou on the left carries a 500 power assist, but when a climax is played, he lets you choose and power up one of your characters by 1000 power. The Saber to the right is a tap self brainstorm which carries a similar effect to Shirou when a climax is played. However, she only provides 500 power, but that power is given to two different characters.

Some targets that are great options for the deck are shown above. Both cards serve the same purpose of acting as thick beaters to pummel your opponent’s characters. FS/S77-008U is an interesting card that gains power for each of your other Master or Servant characters. Additionally, if it is the only character in your front row at the start of the encore step, you can pay a stock to rest it instead if it was reversed. This card works very well with FS/S77-004SR as you can bounce your other characters to leave this as the solo card in the front row. FS/S64-010U is just a large 7500 powered beat-stick on swing as long as you have two or more characters with either Shirou, Saber or Sakura in their name.

Some other interesting choices to include are the cards listed above. FS/S36-015U is a support that provides all Shirou, Saber or Rin characters in front of him with 500 power and a soul. The change effect is not likely to be played in this deck, but the first supportive effect is very good for maintaining soul pressure on your opponent. It works well to try and go for big damage or to push your opponent to cancel for FS/S77-003SP-SP‘s punishing effect. FS/S34-003SP-SP carries a Musashi-esque effect which also adds another layer of punish to your opponent cancelling damage.

As for counters, the deck can do without them. It’s more of a choice since your beaters aren’t necessarily too large on the opponent’s turn. Furthermore, depending on your combo choice, your characters may just flip back into your hand anyway. The counter above is great mostly for its primary effect which filters a card and pushes you closer to a cancel.

I’ve included some suggestions above for the deck. Try to push your opponent as close to death as possible, and then finish them up with the power of FS/S77-003SP-SP. Pressure your opponent and finish them off with the power of EXCALIBUR!
