Katanagatari – Togame and Friends (R) [07/30/2021]

Togame is tasked with collecting a special set of katanas. Along the way, she meets up with Shichika, and the two go on a long journey and adventures full of mysteries and surprises at every corner. With the genius tactician and her trusty human sword, the pair is unparalleled when it comes to combat, surprising their opponents and pursuing victory.

Just as suggested in the intro, the deck focuses mainly upon the pair of Togame and Shichika. The bulk of the deck focuses on having rather large powered cards on the field and hoping to overwhelm your opponents with raw power.

In this form, Shichika has reached his ultimate power. This is the main finisher in the deck. He provides a heal on play, but also a combo-less finishing effect. If you do manage to reverse your opponent with him, you may pay a hefty cost of 5 stock and deal exactly five soul damage to your opponent (damage can be cancelled).

This combo is one of the ways to lower the overall costs of getting Shichika’s hefty finishing ability (KG/SE07-32R). The trigger for the climax is also a salvage which helps greatly in getting hand for the deck.

Speaking of which, the other combo in the deck consists of the cards above. The combo is a generic salvage combo, however the cost is making the player clock themselves (place a card from the top of their deck and place it into clock) for the salvage on attack. If the clock cost is not paid, the player does not get the salvage. The combo itself is pretty strong, sitting at 7000 if you pay the cost with the climax in play without any additional support. The climax’s own effect can then be freely used to boost another card that may be struggling to beat over its lane.

The two cards above are probably one of best two card pairs for the set. 0/0 4000 power cards have steep conditions tacked onto them that usually limit their use or provide the opponent with beneficial effects. The card on the right is one of the best back-row cards in the set due to the fact that it provides every Shichika with an additional 500 power. Not to mention, if played later on, it can be a one turn play power up to make your Shichika cards even bigger. Overall, this is a pretty formidable two card combo considering Shichika will be 4500 power both on yours and your opponent’s turn.

These three are other good suggestions for the deck. The counter to the left is a costless 1/0 1000 power backup which is smaller than the standard 1500 backup. However, it does come with an additional ability where the player can place the top card of their deck into clock to give an additional 1500 on backup use, essentially making itself a 2500 backup for 0 stock cost. The center card is another source of power pump and a level 0 beater. The last card on the right is the only brainstorm in the set while serving as a sizeable beater. All of these cards are weapon trait which allows them to be pumped by KG/SE07-27R‘s global support.

A notable mention will be made to the card above. Aside from the combo at level 1, this card is another very good beater for the deck. It sits at base 5000 power, but with a single Togame at the back, it will be 5500. The more important part is that it has a special ability to pay a stock and tap any Togame (usually your back-row) to pump itself up by 2000 power and prevent your opponent from playing backups during this card’s attack (events can still be played). This effectively lets it run through most cards without any worry from any return, helping remove any annoying targets. Another note to mention, this card does carry Togame in its name, letting you tap itself to power up another copy of itself if you’d like.

What do you think of the deck? Would you like to give it a try? Can you carry out a strategic plan to victory with the genius tactician, Togame and her powerful weapon, Shichika?
