To Love-Ru – Yami and Mikan (Y/G) [07/28/2021]

At one point during the game’s history, this pair was considered the most terrifying duo in the game. The structure itself was very consistent and carried many of the strong common cards in that specific meta. The deck has kind of fallen from grace nowadays, but back in its history, it was a terrifying beast. The deck was also one of the early iterations of a mechanic called RESONATE.

The deck focuses upon three characters, but mainly consists of Yami and Mikan cards with Mea for support. The cards usually search out one another but look for traits as the means to locate them.

The above card is the boss card of the deck. Sporting 11k power if you possess either all Transformation (変身) or Housework (家事) characters, it’s an absolute beast that also carries hex-proof on itself (all characters in the deck are those traits). It has an extremely powerful climax combo effect which future copies of that effect give tribute to as a namesake.

This Mikan is the main advantage combo in the deck which is a standard 5500 powered searcher with the climax combo upon reverse. The combo climax comes in two forms with a choice of either the bar above or the stock soul below.

The Mikan above is another crucial card that aided to the deck’s success. Though not entirely relevant in every match up, the card held a generally rare effect in the form of anti-salvage. Decks running salvage triggers or any salvage effects had to be wary during the attack phase since choosing such an effect could force their entire field to potentially swing for no soul damage that turn.

These are some highlight cards that are played in the deck. The card on the left is usually 3500 if you fulfil its condition which is pretty easy to accomplish at the start of the game. It has the luxury of moving to another lane to face an opponent’s card during their turn. This is very important considering many of the common played cards at zero are usually around 2500 power or lower. The Mea in the center is a good beat-stick during your turn, but its main purpose is as a potential draw engine to fetch you the climax for TL/W37-001SP-SP. The final card to the right helps turn cards that aren’t useful into potential encore targets for your other cards. It provides a nice power boost as well and combos with the Mikan card combo above, TL/W37-040R to help in reversing targets.

Another reason for the deck’s success during the time of its high point were the events listed above. The left event is a potential tech, usually ran at a one-of at most which lets you hand fix and discard unwanted cards. The center card is an anti-damage counter that also has a nice effect of providing power (you can even choose which character gets the bonus). The last card is a strong field value card. The cost of just paying one stock to remove two of your opponent’s cards from the field is extremely powerful.

An honourable mention must be made to the card above. Run was a card that was a potential card that was ran in the deck even though it didn’t fit the theme too closely. Run does still have potential to be searched out or fulfil conditions involving her traits since she does possess Transformation (変身). Most builds don’t feature the cards listed in Run’s effects. The main reason this card was ran was for its second ability. The cost is to pay a stock and return this card to hand when it is front-attacked. This was very useful at the time of the deck’s prime considering many reverse combos were lying around. Also returning the card to hand also aided in giving yourself additional hand advantage.

Other potential cards suggested for the deck are shown above. As always, try out the deck and show us your builds. Let us know what you think. Maybe you can bring this deck out and into glory once more.
