Psycho-Pass – Book (B) [07/23/2021]

There are those that exist to upset morality. Despite the public safety branch’s work to maintain the peace and uphold justice, they must meet those that oppose them from time to time. The head-star of the other colour of the Psycho-Pass extra booster, Shogo Makishima does exactly that.

Similar to Kogami’s style in the <Public Safety> archetype, Makishima and the other blue cards have a goal of trying to bring about a larger character from a higher level down onto the field. Unlike the <Public Safety> archetype, the Book (本) cards do have more means of filtering and attempts to maintain forms of hand advantage. Whereas red cards in the set maintain a constant large amount of power both turns, the blue cards tend to focus on having stronger defensive power.

Note: Almost every character card in the colour aside from one card is Makishima and carries his trait, Book (本).

This is the ultimate goal of the Book deck. The card on the left has a hefty cost that can be paid during your draw step with a four stock cost and a discarding of any climax. If you can pay the cost, you will end up with the card on the right. It provides hand while also gaining power based on the number of other <Psycho-Pass> characters on stage (every card in the set). He combos with the book below which lets you discard a card to remove a potential cost 1 threat.

As mentioned before, unlike the cards in red, there are more offerings in terms of ways to maintain hand and potentially gain hand. For instance, comparing PP/SE14-31C to PP/SE14-02R, the former has clock encore as a way to stay on field while the latter costs hand to maintain presence.

PP/SE14-25R チェ・グソン

Another way that adds to the deck’s means of protecting its field is the presence of a stockless 2000 power character counter (also the only card in blue without book trait). Its condition is pretty easy assuming you have at least two characters on the field.

The other combo in the deck are the cards above. Though the combo doesn’t necessarily gain the player any hand, it does help perform a filter effect. The timing is only at the start of the climax step making it unfortunately unable to filter any cards you may gain from trigger effects such as the other climax for the colour, book. Although, the card is pretty beefy on its own being 6500 power, not to mention, the climax effect itself does provide a replacement effect for itself while pumping a card on your field (draw a card, +2000 power and a soul damage for one character).

As for the rest of the deck, there’s not many options to choose from as I’ve listed a good chunk of potential cards for the deck. If you want to try playing from the villain’s side to the public safety branch, give this deck an attempt.
