Step 3.) Understanding climax interactions

Since the previous post was getting pretty long, I decided to cut this part into a separate post.

Climax cards provide a multitude of effects that work on trigger step. Unlike the generic soul trigger on both events and character cards, climax cards have access to all kinds of other effects that range from adding hand, gaining stock advantage and manipulating the field, etc. when triggered.

Without further ado, the climax trigger types are provided as follows below. Each trigger will be explained in groups according to their colours for which they appear in. Alternative fan names for the triggers will also be named in round brackets.

The triggers above are only found on yellow climaxes.

  1. Return Trigger (Wind/Bounce) – When this trigger is revealed, you may choose one of your opponent’s characters anywhere on the stage (backrow included), and you may bounce that character back to your opponent’s hand. This trigger is always accompanied by a soul icon, thus giving your attacking character an extra soul damage.
  2. Shot Trigger – When this trigger is revealed, when damage dealt by the current character’s attack is cancelled, you may deal one soul damage to your opponent (that damage can be cancelled) This trigger is always accompanied by a soul icon, thus giving your attacking character an extra soul damage.
  3. Switch Trigger (Choice) – When this trigger is revealed, you may choose one of the two following options.
1.) You may choose a card with a soul icon in your waiting room and add it back to hand.
2.) You may choose a card with a soul icon in your waiting room and place it on the top of your stock zone, and then place this card atop of your stock zone.

The triggers above are only found on green climaxes.

  1. Pull Trigger (Bag) – When this trigger is revealed, you may place the top card of your deck into your stock zone, and then place this card atop of your stock zone.
  2. Treasure Trigger (Bar) – When this trigger is revealed, you may place this card, (the climax that was triggered with the treasure icon) into you hand, and then you may place the top card of your deck on top of your stock zone.

The triggers above are only found on blue climaxes.

  1. Draw Trigger (Book) – When this trigger is revealed, you may add the top card of your deck to your hand (card is not revealed).
  2. Gate Trigger (Pants) – When this trigger is revealed, you may choose a climax card in your waiting room and add it to hand. This trigger is always accompanied by a soul icon, thus giving your attacking character an extra soul damage.

The triggers above are only found on red climaxes.

  1. Comeback Trigger (Salvage/Gate) – When this trigger is revealed, you may choose a character card in your waiting room and add it to hand.
  2. Standby Trigger – When this trigger is revealed, you may choose a character card in your waiting room whose level is one level higher than yours, equal or less, then you may place that card rested on any slot on the stage (this includes backrow; also you may play over other cards). This trigger is always accompanied by a soul icon, thus giving your attacking character an extra soul damage.
Soul +2 Trigger

The trigger above is found in any colour climax.

  1. Soul+2 Trigger (2soul Trigger) – When this trigger is revealed, the character card attacking gains +2 soul damage for the turn.

Other than the above effects, climax cards resolve just like any other trigger and place themselves into your stock zone after doing their effects.
